Rene Girard was a French Philosopher who died in 2015.

He wrote probably the most important philosophical/anthropological works of the last century called "Violence and the Sacred" and "Things hidden since the foundation of the world"

He specifically writes about pagan sacrifice/violence and what he calls the "scapegoat theory".

Christianity won the battle of faiths, and was institutionalized in the medieval era. it served a good purpose, but it was always levantine, never a proper fit for the West. Paganism is simply a return to the roots.

as for Jesus (which is a different argument), of course Christianity grew out of Judaism. though now that you mention it, there are interesting parallels, such as Clouds by Aristophanes and mother/child iconography.
