I have a question for you all, if you don't mind.

So, what are the general thoughts or feelings of the Irish towards the American-Irish. I know that most of you don't consider us Irish at all, I got that, but is there any form of a certain brotherhood?

I say this because, growing up my sisters did Irish dancing, and we would go to the Irish heritage center in Chicago every year.
We would all get together in our little house and watch the quiet man. Here stories about ireland and Irish and such, and it created such a longing for a place I knew nothing about.

I have no family in Ireland left. I am third generation and my great grandparents changed their name purposely not to seem irish.

one more thing. I recently went to a "family reunion" in germany, it was the only family connection we have left to europe. Anyway, there was no one that looked like me. I kinda of stuck out. Everyone was blond and tan, whereas I am a red head and pale. I just didn't feel like it was a home.

But that wasn't the case in Ireland. When I visited for the first time - it was crazy, people actually looked like me. Never before did I experience this. It just blew me away.

So in sum, how do you few us? I mean, if I am not Irish in your eyes, then what the hell am I?

For white americans, we kinda just fall into the lump sum of "white"....but what does this even mean? We can't feel proud or talk about our race because of slavery and oppression and such, we are kinda void of deep roots of identity and this bothers me, and it makes me want to emigrate to Ireland.
