Anonymous never existed as a "elite hacking group" The Anonymous you hear about on facebook, twitter and youtube have no affiliation with 4chan. It started off as a shitty protest against Scientology and then normies took it over once that happen the whole 4chan anonymous gang died. Anything that starts on 4chan that gets touched by normies is no longer 4chan.

Well some I knew grew up and either joined the military, became privately contracted engineers, computer programmers and security officials. There's still a few groups out there, but they are mostly third party government contractors who come in as consultants.
