The streets are covered in filth, there is graffiti everywhere, street furniture is left broken: Chisinau is tidier and better kept than Brussels. The last time I had the misfortune to go anywhere near Brussels I was with a couple of friends on the train to Ghent (which by contrast is a great place: the total opposite to Brussels) and it was the first time he'd ever seen central Brussels. He couldn't believe his eyes; he commented that it some of the houses looked like Victorian slums, and I couldn't disagree.
