What should money be backed by?
>>
>>136894693
Government force, and assets like military, economic productivity, etc.
Fiat works pretty well if managed correctly desu.

Slaves.

They have actual economic value. You can't just create them>>136894795
out of thin air without military conquest. They age and lose their value over time, thus keeping supply in check.

It's the perfect option.
>>
>>136894693
The force of government making it legal tender for debts, and the promise to accept it in payment of taxes.
>>
>>136895089
>You can't just create them
What is breeding?
>>
>>136894693
A strong, reliable and responsible government.
The average man have no use to gold, except if others are ready to accept it as a payment. Like a banknote.
The gold meme is the symptom of a failing government and a failing society.
>>
Finite resources. Gold historically being a common one, for example.

Bitcoins are nifty and all, but always cracks me up how people act like it's any better than fiat when it's basically backed up by nothing either.

And then the technical challenges, such as the blockchain already being xbox hueg and growing exponentially, when the currency still isn't even remotely common or mainstream yet.

Debt.

Precious metals rise and fall in value and prices are easily manipulated by anyone with large stockpiles of those resources. Debt always increases in value. Debt will always beat inflation. Debt will always beat Wall Street. People always want more shit than they deserve and are too impatient, short sighted and uneducated enough to understand their own finances, so there will always be large herds of sheep willing to sign themselves right into slavery.

Hour's worth of labour is good.

The real danger with fiat money is interest.

At the moment the central bank can print money out of thin air.. but if that wasn't bad enough.. they can charge interest on that money they printed out of thin air.

I mean interest was meant to offset opportunity cost. (If I lend you 1000, you gotta pay me back 1000 + what *I* could've done with that 1000 while you were borrowing it).

But printed money doesn't have opportunity cost. It's not like the central bank could've done something else with the money it literally pulled out of thin air.

Your taxes are going towards paying off this central bank interest on money printed out of nothing. In short Your literally trading your hard work and labour for interest on fake money. Probably all going back to ((them)).

Are you aware that there were actually more market booms/busts, etc. and greater general economic instability under the gold standard than fiat and central banking monetary management?

there is nothing inherently wrong with fiat currency.

It's that it is created as interest bearing debt by private banks that is the problem.

yes, in fact. i never formally disagreed with you, i only pointed out a fallacy. i don't disagree with any style of currency, only the use of a single currency enforced by government. it's too easy to manipulate people when you can manipulate the only currency they're allowed to trade in. ideally americans would have a choice in whatever currency they wanted to use. i believe in the choice to only trade in pic related.
