Self-Defense and Guns

I've used a firearm for self defense twice in Chicago. Once was when I was young and stupid. All I had was a pump action shotgun, there was screaming in an alley, two guys were holding a woman up with a knife, I fired a slug into a dumpster as a warning shot and they ran off. The second time was a guy climbing over a security fence in my yard. He saw my pistol and fell down. That was a long night.
