>1. To fulfill prophecy.
1. Correct, but not just that.
>2. To bear the sins of mankind upon Himself.
2. Correct but not how you mean it. He bore the same consequences for sin that we suffer. He didn't bear them instead of us - we all still suffer and die.
>3. To bear the wrath of God on all of those sins.
3. Wrong. The Father was pleased in Christ's humility, condescension, and victory over sin and. Not mad ar him at all. You don't have to get mad at someone else to forgive someone who wronged you.
>4. To pay the ultimate price for those sins; i.e. death.
4. Well yes, but his death was not required to appease God's anger, but being Life itself, the grave could not hold Christ. He inextricably bound all mankind to himself when he assumed flesh from the Virgin. All men die because Adam sinned and he died, but Christ undid that. Now all men die because Christ was holy and submitted to death, and all will rise because death could not hold him.
>5. He was buried because he was dead.
5. He was buried to suffer the fate of other men - to be unseen in the depths of the earth. He descended to to dead to bring them out.
>6. He rose from the dead because he is God.
6. Correct, but specifically his purpose in it was to undo the sin of Adam and to end the curse of death, by bringing all men to himself and giving them resurrection through his own rising again. Christ put death to death by his death. It has now power now.
Penal substitution is a heresy. Stop preaching this nonsense. It makes people confused and it also makes God look like a giant dick.
