I think anyone that is a humanities or liberal arts major should be forced to take linguistics, at the very least so they understand why words mean what they do, and so they learn where racial slurs come from. My professor for the linguistics course I took in college (took for gen ed requirement) spent 3 classes going over the origin of racial slurs and the difficulty of Germanic, Latin, Indo-European, Asiatic, and Arabic speakers to pronounce words from each other's language group.
