I've always been surprised farms haven't been automated already. I mean, they are pretty much geared for it, being built on grids with consistent irrigation and harvesting geometry. Make the pivot irrigators automated, then use drones or something with a built in geometry goal plant the seeds. Come harvest have automated combines harvest.
I'm sure it won't be that easy, but it is definitely easier than putting a self-driving car on the road.
