Here's my honest experience on the subject.

I masturbate to pornography non-regularly on necessity of alleviating sexual desire.

I have no interest in actual sex or any form of a relationship with women. Witholding from sexual release over-time increases my "thirst" for real women and I'd rather avoid that.

If you're addicted to pornography, I find it's more likely that you lack self-control than pornography being in itself that problematic.

So far, I have not found a good argument for absolute non-participation in any sexual activity. Because I have decided to live in solitude with womanly comfort, I find a reasonably efficient alternative for sexual release which is a proper function for an animal body.

In regards to whether or not it's an animalistic pursuit or that of the higher mind : I do not think it's intelligent and virtous to abstain from the reality of your physical existence. As such, you pursue the most virtuous form of physical maintenance for your animal instinct.

If you have to eat - you eat well and a proper amount, if you have to move - you do so in a way that is beneficial to the realities of human existence. Sex is somewhat more complicated since it is not an absolute necessity, but it's a big enough of an element to warrant attention.

Full blown abstinence from any sexual activity I find foolish. In many activities, regulation is more difficult than any of the alternatives.
