Humans are animals, humans are predators, humans like tools that can help them be better predators. Shooting things like targets for family protection, competition, etc. It's part of our nature. Y'know, the basics. Use some frilly Disney-esque language if you think it'll help.

Guns are never going away in this country. This person is fighting a battle that's already been lost, no matter how loud they yell.

This is easy. Put an unloaded gun on a table, then start choking the life out of him. If he reaches for the gun, you're safe and can kill him in self defense, knowing that he died a hypocrite. If he's on the verge of passing out and still hasn't reached for it, he's a principled man.
