In a happy daze. We won the cold war, there was no great ideological fight anymore, the economy was booming like never before, liberty and freedom seemed to sweep the world... We thought we had won, that it was game over (in a good sense). It was truly the zenith of our civilization. We were so delusional that Fukuyama could publish "the end of history" and actually be taken serious.

Of course, we now know that it was just the silence before the storm.

>>

There was still a feeling of hope back then. It wasn't as degenerate, at least out in the open. No one ever thought about muslims or trannies. No one would have believed you if you told them white people would be genocided in their own countries.

And nobody would care if you got invaded and annexed by Russia.

NATO or not, Americans are not going to war for Latvia, a country that doesn't meet its 2% obligations too.

More lighthearted. People had a sense of humor and typically liked each other. Hell, even NY and California were okay back then.

People didn't lose their jobs because they pissed off some bulldyke on the other side of the country and their 5,000 followers.

Yes you are. If NATO shows that it will not defend the Baltics, then you can count on Poland and all the others to bail on it, presumably with all of the EU behind them.

Not that I disagree with it, the EU would be much better off if we took our defense into our own hands. Which is why the USA will keep propping up NATO, you want us to be dependent on you.

was pretty great my dude. Demographics weren't ruined, politicians maybe were actually representing the people, people were more open and trusting. Everything was polarized but not like it is today. I don't know, maybe society would have crumbled like it has / is without 9/11 but I think there's a chance 9/11 had a profound impact on our psyche. If it did you have to hand it to Osama, he fucking knew what he was doing. He knew he wasn't just killing a few thousand people and some nice real estate, he knew he was defeating the soul of the people. Perhaps he knew we were so weak that would destroy us, whereas for his culture it would only embolden it, but shit man...

You had all the grunge guys virtue signalling how cool they were with "women and gays" at every turn. Eddie Vedder scribbles PRO CHOICE on his arm during the MTV Unplugged performance. Kurt Cobain is notably vocal about this kind of thing. We just came off of a decade of We Are the World and other globalist feel-good pop orgies. Stuff like 10,000 Maniacs with their lyrics straight out of the contents of a college sophomore's backpack about child abuse and poverty and loving everybody.

"Earth Day" is all of a sudden a thing and you better god damn believe that Nickelodeon, the only real kids cable network with any market penetration at the time, took full weeks out of their schedule to promote it. Everyone knows about Captain Planet so I don't need to go in to that. Also don't forget about shit like Terminator 2 with its anti-nuclear and feminist/matriarchal overtones was marketed heavily to children.

I remember the economygoing down hard in '88 and not knowing or caring what that meant. I remember that was the year crack first showed up and things turned to shit real fast where we lived in NY. Ok, think harder about this, but you're not entirely wrong. The fact that you compare the two is telling. 9/11 literally "linked" most Americans when it happened. It was a media explosion that, now that I think about it, has overwritten pretty much every thing that came before it. The OJ chase was huge. M.A.S.H. and Seinfeld ending were huge. The gulf War was a hit. But 9/11? LIVE FOOTAGE of New York exploding? Complete and utter confusion and bewilderment by pretty much every person of official capacity? That was life changing. Culture defining.

18 years, one month and one day old on 9/11.
Pre-9/11, things were better. Just so much better. But at that point, the poisonous fruits were already planted.. At least we are in 2017 and not 2012. That's what I'm grateful for now.
>>
Believe me bros we are living in the best time to be alive in decades.
We are all now aware of the propaganda and narrative aimed against the Western world
Even just a few years ago people were oblivious to the mind control, let alone the peak of when they were getting away with the diversity (white genocide) the 90s. And everyone was just going along with it
It might seem way shittier now, but that's just because we are now aware of what is going on, we are now able to see the world for what it really is. And while it might be shit, at least we now in a position to defend ourselves, we have not been aware of the attack until now

The gooberment raped the constitution like they do now but they blamed it on "muh ebil crack" instead of (((muslims))).

In 1998 they FINALLY started lose a FEW court cases in relating to illegal search, surveillance, and seizure: I said to myself, "I wonder what bullshit (after crack) will they come up with to take ALL the rest of our remaining freedoms."

No it wasn't. You clearly never travelled before 9/11. There was still security, I recall having to place bags on the x-ray machine and go through a metal detector. I would say popular music went to shit after 1999 or so, with the boy band wave.

after boy bands came nigger music, and nigger music never left.

as for 9/11 I was in the Army that day. I had CQ duty, and I remember when I showed up at 7am to start the sgt. I was paired said, "I think today should be a quiet day".

Will never forget those words.

The base was on lockdown and I had to monitor the guards posted around our building a few hours later.

I was sad more planes didn't fall from the sky.

Happenings before I knew what happenings were and all.

I think I break 9/11 down as...

70% Chance our government KNEW about it but let it happen to incite public outrage. The US government did this to get us involved in WW1 and vietnam and probable some other wars too.

>the Gulf War lasted like 10 days.

In reality it lasted many years. What Americans did to the Iraqis after the Gulf War made him go from 100% pro-American to 100% Anti-American between 1993 and 1998 when he at last snapped and said that muslims should go to war against America to stop the murder of muslims.

Bill Clinton killed 500,000 iraqi children between 1993 and 1996 (according to the medical Journal "the Lancet"). Which was one of the lists of 4 reasons that Bin Laden gave for the 9/11 attack. Bill Clinton murdered way more muslims than that though.

It's different for everyone. For me, 9/11 was a wakeup call because I wanted to know just what the fuck happened.

Before that I was relatively happy go lucky. Happy to get stoned and chase girls. I played golf almost everyday and listened to metallica and tupac on CD.

After 9/11 I got a gf who burned a CD for me and then I jumped on a computer and now I can' t et off it, down the f'kin rabbit hole.

Oldfag Gen-Xer here. Born in the 70s & came of age in the 80s. Childhood was so remarkably different. We grew up in a small town spending most summer & weekend days away from the house traveling around town on our bikes, playing in the woods, going camping with no adults to watch over us, riding motorcycles on our friend's farms, walking to and from school, etc. Very free range. Gosh, we used to ride our bikes six miles to jump off a tree that hung very high over the river. My siblings have kids and their children would never be allowed to do that stuff now and most most of their parent friends think the same. My siblings marvel at how normal it all seemed then but borderline insane now.

When I was 6 I rode my bike a few miles from home. A truck beep its horn at me and made run off the road. I used to walk for miles in the woods and go to a park that was adjacent to our neighborhood for 3-4 years. I remember the day the niggers from other counties and cities found out the park we paid for in our county had a pool in it like it was yesterday. What was once a white pool had turned into a black head fest. If you did go in the pool have a very thin layer of Jerry Curl in it. From all the Fro Products. They would act rude and entitled obtuse and overbearing. Just like a bully out of place. Those were the days back in the 80's. Before they literally started moving them next door to people on tax payer dollars and carting them directly into your communities and schools and forcing them into every business and school first regardless of deserving it or not.

Those were the days! THE M.J. FOX days! Suburbs are now Ghettoburbs and even if niggers move out or pool up back to one side now. Don't matter much because were all poor now at lower level incomes which most jobs are but have gotten worse and gapped further by said niggers and said mexishits. Its planned to destory your econemy and nation as far as im concerned. Why can't white people work and make a living at jobs like fast food or construction like we used to. Why did they make it to where you're a mexishit or you run mexishits? Weakens the middle class. Were NOT SELLING ENOUGH HOMES BRING MORE SHIT SKINS WITH SHITLETS SO THEY NEED A HOME! >>136771035

The internet has become consolidated in the hands of a few major corporations (like American media companies did in the 1990s). Also 2007 brought an influx of amateurs unto the internet with the introduction of smart phones and the popularization of social media. Since then the internet has dramatically changed its content and culture to suit a lower IQ audience. My main point here is this: most normies were never meant to use the internet and cannot comprehend nor adequately use it for its intended purpose. Instead of seeing the internet as a space for discussing topics, getting info, and business, they have tried to bridge the Internet with reality. In the early 2000's I was told to never reveal my name or private info on the internet, now every kid and the mother is sharing everything on a public website for everyone to see. It's turned into a dick waving contest of the lowest kind. It's pathetic what social media has revealed about human nature.

You know what was cool about the 1990's? It was considered cool to think and strive for your future. People didn't think about narcissism, vanity, and trying to be a model or the next Justin Beiber. A person was judged based on their comfort and little knicknacks, not how many people eye your face and know your name. Essentially, if you managed to live a good, what I like to call, a hammock lifestyle that made your life easier, you were known as successful. Think of having a TV in your car while there's also a mini-fridge. If you managed to nigger-rig your life, it was fine, if not considered creative.

People encouraged thinking in sciences. It was considered cool. Reading wasn't just for losers. Remember those book articles where you'd circle one and received a copy at school the next week and were happy to finally get the copy or when reading rainbow was on? Remember when you got to watch a VHS tape about rockets launching into space, planets, etc. and be excited about it, and fascinated by it, opening your mind to more questions? Remember when they had Imagination or Discovery Channel stores with telescopes, crystal formations, books, software, gadgets, magnets, etc. and finding the little sciences behind them intriguing? Remember when games like Sim City allowed for creativity, learning, and very little hand-holding where you got to learn micromanagement through trial-and error, and the game never ended, whereas games today are literally walkers for retards? Remember when little bits of technology released actually inspired both boys and girls equally giving hope for the future, thinking we'd have flying cars by the year 2000?

All of that became crushed. Nothing but bread-and-circus with social media, vanity, narcissism, addictions, sleeping around, social anxiety, suicides, etc.

The worst thing of all it's that moment when you realised how fucking great it all was and how those days will never come back.

I remember back then in my comfy european small city, how there would be in any school just one black, maybe one russian and maybe one muslim.

Nobody knew their names and they were just ''the black'', ''the russian'' and ''the girl with the scarf''.

And now when I pass in front of my old school, it's like at least 40% immigrants.

All the trannies, the hormones, the diversity, fuck man...

I've lost all hope. The day of the rope will never come and my great grand children will be called Mohammed or Asha or I don't know.

Fucking life seriously.

pd. Can somebody post that meme of the father with a gun looking out of the window and seeing like a gay parade with trannies? I'd like to save it.

blacks were not indoctrinated fully into the concept of gibsmedats nor had they been so snobby as they are now. people would generally provide a collective aura of comfort in familiar settings and the world felt like it was descending down a never ending spiral of nostalgia

I've lived in the same town for over twenty years. We got an alarm system in 2014. Gold tier - sensors on all doors & windows, glass break & motion sensors, fire alarms, etc.

The very ideal of owning the same system in 1996 would have seemed lol-worthy & a paranoid waste of money. Now I arm that system every night and would feel like I'm sleeping with the front door open without it.

I'll never set foot in my hometown again.

Agreeing with the other X'ers here.. We primarily communicated with each other with our mouths. Even though we could have emailed.

There were also many fewer freaks and 'I'm unique' contestants running around as we weren't socially deprived and starving for human interaction.

Also a result, there were very few virgins. Lots of fucking happening.

And.. and.. the concept of being a NEET would earn you an ass-kicking. That nonsense wasn't an option.

In their defense, it's considered child neglect to let your kids run off on their own like that now. All it takes is one fat, nosy cow to call the police after seeing your kids walking down the street alone, and suddenly you need to hire an expensive lawyer to fight child services in court for you.

It was a great time.

We were post- most of this SJW shit also. General vibe was that nobody really cared what other people got up to and didn't. In those days people thought things like skin colour and sexuality didn't matter so much.

Nearly everyone here would have been liberal, it was only religious nutter conservatives who thought interfering in what people did and thought was a good idea.

This. 9/11 made so many people nihilistic. Our sense of safety was irrevocably shattered. Never before had there been an attack on our home soil. Yes there was pearl harbor in Hawaii, but it wasn't even a state then. New York's been with us since the birth of this nation, to see the largest buildings on fire and then collapse in the biggest American city was terrifying.

As a 10 year old I barely comprehended it, but my parents were freaking the fuck out. It fundamentally changed them and much of the country psychologically. There was minimal pushback against NeoCons then, everyone was ready for war. It was unreal.

I still remember being at boy scout camp when Mission Accomplished was declared in May of 2003, just 2 months after the invasion began. Then the war lasted another number of years.

The fact is that before 9/11 there wasn't really an existential dread like there is today. There wasn't the sense that it would all just collapse somehow. Nothing could stop us. The USSR and communism just ended in 89 or so. The 90s were the American decade, unbridled optimism among everyone, traditional society and church was still popular. This was well before the pedophilia scandals of the Catholic Church. There was still this sense of traditional American society, without an iota of the self-deprecating irony even many Patriots display today. It was less polarized as a society though not devoid.

There was no worry of being attacked by another country. Russia was dead and rebuilding, China was still pretty much nothing, but growing. There was no military danger whatsoever, the only danger was that our own consumerism would do us in. And most people didn't even comprehend that far.

It wasn't unequivocally better. Many things are better today such as technology, beer, and food. The culinary arts have become exceedingly refined in the past 20 years. It's a true art in America now.

Really though the best way to describe pre 9/11 is carefree.

A gentler, innocent time. Everything seemed to be moving towards an idealized future.
>>
>>136794391
Spot on. I unironically think future historians might settle 9/11 as the ending of a historical era, like the Storming of Bastille or the Fall of Constantinople. We can't see it from within (and specially since it's been only almost 16 years), but I think it marks a shift in how things work. Maybe they'll settle on something else, like the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, but still... So much changed in so little time because of 9/11, even outside the US or the Middle East.
>>
>>136794974
Think of how often you heat the term "post 9/11". I think what you are saying will happen for sure, it's basically happening now. It was the end of an era and the beginning of another.
If anything it was the end of the 90s. The same way they say the 80s sort of stuck around until 1994. The 90s ended in mid late 2001.

I loved AltaVista because it had boolean searches. There was NO logical filtering back then so matter what you looked for you got 10,000 pages of titties. I like titties, but not when I'm trying to fix my 1988 honda. Google did NOT have that back then (they stole it later). There was also Yahoo which was like a subject directory for the WHOLE internet.

Typical 1995 AltaVista search: repair AND 1988 AND honda AND civic -fuck -sex -tits -screw -penis
