(By older I mean ancient/medieval, with some exceptions like the American Civil War)
Pros:
>Not some big old geopolitical joke, shit actually mattered. If you lost your home would be pillaged, if you won you'd return to your wife with tons of plunder
>Most of the time is spent marching through all types of country instead of sitting in a base
>Only a few, deadly battles as opposed to near endless low intensity conflict
>Training matters; a master warrior would rarely be defeated by a weaker one but nowadays an idiot with a rifle could kill a navy seal if he was lucky
