nah it's gotta be like mash: syrian redux

maybe call it the flight boys - one episode about a pilot, now grounded because the airport runways are insecure, forced to take up infantry weapons to defend the base

the story of countryside, a conscript, who tells wild stories that affect the general moral, who is, at the end matyred, while fighting evil headchoppers, after realising the error of his ways. he 'self-sacrifices'

the overriding feelz pro-syrian, with more than a hint of sadness at the madness and some mournful mashlike tune

FSA/Idlib GovernorateCamp Graduations

We were trying to find it yesterday. This camp has been used many times in the last few months. Videos have been uploaded for both the 11th and 9th sessions. The camp is described as being in the Idlib Governorate. This helps narrow the search considerably. I will post the video links, notable translations, and a few screenshots.

>Russian jets destroy several ISIL tanks, bases in east Homs: video
BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:55 P.M.) – The Russian Air Force has played an imperative role in the Islamic State’s (ISIL) demise in Syria, killing scores of terrorists and destroying much of their hardware.

Recently, the Syrian Free News channel released footage of the Russian Air Force destroying ISIL bases and tanks in the eastern countryside of the Homs Governorate.
These airstrikes have propelled the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) to recover several points around the strategic city of Al-Sukhnah, which was once an Islamic State stronghold.

With the Syrian Army intensifying their assault against the Islamic State in the vast Syrian Desert, the need for Russian air assistance is at an all time high.

>SDF controls 50% of Raqqa.
Is Raqqa that big/dense of a city or does the SDF just suck?
>>
>>136741999
Well, so without sources for now:
Suknah was in fire control since 5/8, IS movement was observed in and out of the city, later 12 SAA died when trying to clear what they've left - it turned out to be IEDs. Today, 8/8, at least 2+ SVBIEDs hit SAA positions (most likely Shaitat) trying to secure the south-east buffer zone, inflicting casualties. That's basically the most important facts. Now SAA withdrawn from the city and is waiting for more air support to target IS movement (huge thingz are going on) and for another advance, this time with much more anti-IED squads.
T2/T3/Hmaymah.. All we know is: SyMoD claims 22 casualties, Hezzies claim 10, one loyalist journalist claims 62, IS claims over 90 and 5 tanks and 2 BMP, attack came exactly like on PMU, from 3 axis, inflicted massive casualties, was repelled due to air sorties and MLRS shelling.
If someone has more detailed questions I'm here for a few hours more probably.

What's.. weird.. Not weird, but certainly unsettling, is the IS militants were called.. Shabiha. Ghosts. Same with Oleg. He called them Spirits, Duchy. These names are no jokes, it's related to Taliban tactics of using tunnel systems, so they might've as well striked them in the back and run.

>ISIL’s east Homs offensive ends in complete disaster, 80+ terrorists killed
BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:05 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIL) launched a massive offensive in the eastern countryside of the Homs Governorate, Wednesday, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions near the strategic T-2 Pumping Station.

ISIL began the assault by storming the Syrian Army’s positions in the Humaymah area of Homs; this resulted in a fierce battle that ensued for several hours.

Despite the intensity of the attack, the Islamic State was unable to capture any territory from the Syrian Army.
The terrorists were filmed fleeing the area by local journalists after failing to recover any territory in the Humaymah area.
According to a military source, more than 80 Islamic State terrorists were killed on Wednesday, including scores of foreign terrorists.

The source added that the Syrian Army lost 22 soldiers during the battle.

ISIL’s failed offensive in eastern Homs is likely the first of very many as reinforcements from eastern Hama pour into to aid the terrorist group.

So, if anyone was wondering why Kurds are so incompetent: It's because they get 15 days of training before being shipped out to the front lines of Raqqa. Literally 15 fucking days.

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-mideast-syria-forces-female-idUSKBN1AP2B9

>Women fighters danced to Kurdish songs in a village in northern Syria on Wednesday after completing their military training to join the battle against Islamic State.

>The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of local militias supported by a U.S.-led coalition, had given the 210 women a 15-day course in armed combat.

>Trainers taught the women weapons handling, tactics and first aid.

Shabiha means a Ghost. This name was given to pro-Hafez gangs terroryzing the civilians decades ago. Accidentally, Russian "Duchy" translates to "Ghosts" which translates to "Shabiha" and it comes from 1989 to describe Taliban tunnel tactics. It's just coincidence.
>what is the overall message the info tells you?
I would like to be wrong, but I think after IS evacuates east Homs pocket, they will have huge advantage over exposed SAA and friends. Raids, tons of casualties and material losses, SVBIEDs.. Maybe they won't be able to retake Suknah (fantastic work of RuAF, thermobaric is really nice against tunnels) but they will surely inflict hundreds more of casualties until Suknah is finally secured, along with it's flanks.

awesome. it creates what the germans call zusammenhang ( context ) - if we take all the facts and put them into the context then we must arrive at a more complete facsimile of the actual site.

for instance, i have a suspicion that the ebinsroad is to the west(or east) of the field they are training on. judging by the plough marks. and since the nw-se orientation is typical in the area, we can assume it to be to the nw or se.

it's like a logical puzzel. and you are the the master keeper of our collected thought, an instument (willing instrument) of the hive mind.

at least you have that. now get cracking.

A lot of IS movement was spotted by RuAF (or more likely VKS), Hezbollah drones and Syrian reconeissance in the deserts, roughly between Tigers, Uqayrabat and Deir ez Zor. They say there wasn't activity like this ever, so it indicates they're forming a force to do something bigger. Could be DeZ, could be something else.

Ok, so if Yusha's claim can be interpreted as the SAA clearing out the border all the way to the Iraqi border, then 1 is what the frontline looks like

However, it is more realistic that the SAA controls the border all the way up to Homs gov, marked by 2, the red line

Unfortunately, 3 seems like the most likely scenario, with only the border in Suweida cleared out

looking gooder. I think the orientation is wrong. the ebins road bit has to be higher up - i.e. it has to be at the end of the croplines. so if the barracks is one end of the croplines, then the zigzag road has to be at the other end. and the field ploughing is likely to be nw-se. and it might be upside down.

the sources I saw talked ( yours? or earlier) about tunnels in the mountains. but it's not clear to me where they all are or how they are connected.

but maybe not

What's confirmed by loyalists, is Ash-Shaitat tribes entered IS tunnels in Suknah, but nothing more than that. The mountain north-west of the city was clear.

>Breaking: Rebels mass retreat to Jordan as Syrian military captures entire Sweida-Jordan border
BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:50 A.M.) – The Free Syrian Army (FSA) has suffered a major defeat today as their forces retreated from several points along the Jordanian border.

Backed by Hashd Al-Sha’abi (Iraqi paramilitary) and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Corps captured 151st Border Garrison today after launching a powerful attack along the Jordanian border.

According to a military source in southern Syria, the Syrian Arab Army and Hashd Al-Sha’abi captured a total of 57km along the Jordanian border, forcing the Free Syrian Army’s Ahmad Al-Abdo unit to mass retreat to Jordan.
The Syrian military has now connected the 134th, 139th, and 151st border-garrisons in the Al-Sweida Governorate.

Today’s advance on the Jordanian border by the Syrian military marks the first time they control the entire Sweida-Jordan border.

A map to explain the current battlefield in the southwestern Badia:
>Red = Confirmed SAA points
>Green = Probable FSA points
>Red arrow = Probable future axis(s'? es?) of advance.
>Grey = Suitable goals defensive line for SAA until the burgers leave al-Tanf.
FSA most probably don't have any presence in the pocket, but SAA hasn't captured anything in it, or the hill that's under fire control.
SAA are likely to surround and attack Mahruthah from several angles. But there's also the possibility that they will skip it and just go straight to the village (link), now that the border area is pretty much clear.
http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=33.229144&lon=37.890322&z=18&m=bs
Link related is Mahruthah village, basically the last sanctuary before the Ruqban camp, So controlling/terrorizing that will be vital for keeping the desert rats at bay.
