The thing that pisses me off about Trianon and Versailles, is that sure, whatever, dismember the defeated countries, but it's that in their punitive measures, they allowed countries in Eastern Europe (as well as France), to claim land that was majority populated by ethnic Germans and Hungarians, cutting these Germans and Hungarians off from their main population bases, and isolating them within countries of other, often vengeful, ethnic groups.
In the case of Germany, the tension this caused with Poland led directly to WWII.

This map is fairly low resolution, but it shows the distribution of ethnic Hungarians at the time of the Treaty of Trianon, and in blue it shows an alternative border which would have included a greater majority of ethnic Hungarians within Hungary's borders.

This would have been sensible. But Hungary's filthy neighbours couldn't resist cutting out as much land for themselves as they could, based on their own nationalistic, imperialistic, jingoistic ambitions.

Much of West Prussia, however, was not only majority German, but was an essential land bridge to Danzig and East Prussia.
There was no reason to concede that to Poland bar their own colonial ambitions and want for a coast.
West Prussia is the single most important territorial concession to contribute to the onset of WWII.

Yesterday, it was raining non-stop from dawn to dusk.
We had 2 or 3 days like that last week too.
I've actually been able to do outdoor work because of it.

By the map, I was born in the dark blue region in the Scottish Highlands. I was gonna say I don't have ancestry from anywhere with more sunlight than the green areas, except I might from Switzerland and the south of Germany where they're yellow, and surprisingly Talinn in Estonia also has more sunlight.

But you know, the Arctic circle has sunlight all the time for half of the year, but it's still cold. It's also a latitude thing.
The one saving grace of the orange areas is they tend to be drier, because I hate humid heat, and Britain is really humid.
But even with dry heat, I couldn't work in places like Portugal. I've been there on holiday once. I could just hide inside and drink a lot of iced tea. If I had to work outdoors there all year round I'd fucking die.
