For browsers vivaldi is ugly out of the box, and just feels slower. The only chrome substitute I like right now is chromium.

I've never found it to be so, in my own experience.

The only thing that makes you believe that other browsers are 'faster' is that they aggressively pre-scan and make GET requests to links that appear on the the page you are currently browsing, to make it seem as if it is loading them quicker.

If you are brave enough to visit chan sites using a browser that imitates randomly clicking on links, then good luck to you.

You can set firefox to behave this way if you wish, but I would never advise to do so, nor to use any browser that does by default.

I tried vivaldi and uninstalled it for the exactly opposite reason. With chromium everything worked smoothly, even with 20-30 tabs open. Now trying brave and it seems to be fast and light, I only miss a couple of features from chromium.

StartPage uses Google, it's just running your searches through a proxy. So you're still giving Google traffic, and you're still seeing their adverts as well.

I'm using Bing for the moment. And I think it's good. For several reasons.
1) It's an entirely separate and competing product from Google
2) They have their own ad network, so if I happen to click an ad, then I'm not supporting Google, I'm supporting Microsoft instead
3) I like Microsoft - they're on the back foot these days, especially with Bing, so I want to support them
4) They're Google's closest competitor in search, so boosting them causes the biggest headache for Google
5) A key reason - Bing is full-featured, it's got maps and stuff, while something like DuckDuckGo doesn't

I mean, using Bing, you can tell they've implemented loads of the Google features because they want to persuade people to switch.
