The reason why Jews were persecuted throughout Europe ever since they moved in was because they were able to lend people money and claim interest from it. Since Christians were religiously sanctioned from doing so, the Jews amassed considerable monopoly over trade and resources, forcing a great imbalance in the geopolitical structure of pre-industrial Europe. Through centuries of dynasty-like succession of power, this imbalance prevails today and is likely not going to topple anytime soon.
