The next shift is probably going to be based around Intelligence. Similar to how industrialization increased society's ability to do physical labor. AI, genetic engineering, and anything that impacts intelligence of a society is the next big seismic shift in world power.

Just look into China's emphasis on AI and biotech. Basically the next shift won't be a collapse of countries or the aftereffects of military power. Rather it will be whoever hits the intelligence revolution faster and better.

Traditional alliances, organization structures, etc don't matter if you are undergoing an intelligence explosion. Canada for instance could easily become the most powerful country on earth if it somehow hit this stage of society first.

So basically there is a large paradigm shift coming and it most likely will be an AI driven future.

Oil is the global standard of value, since it is so useful and important in every modern industry. That's why we call it the 'petrodollar'.

However oil prices worldwide have been nosediving due to a variety of factors. Continued improvement in technology improving fuel efficiency, global economic recession reducing the growth rate of oil demand, expansion of offshore oil drilling making more oceanfloor oil reserves accessible, competition from shale gas & natural gas becoming cheaper and cleaner every year, development of alternate energy sources etc.

Already oil producing nations like Saudi Arabia and Russia are beginning to feel the hurt in their pockets. Since their oil is worth shit their treasury bonds are worth shit and their exports are collapsing (in dollars). This makes people poor and angry. This, combined with the group mental illness known as Islam, can lead to some very explosive choices... such as unprovoked nuclear war.

First the Arabian economies will collapse. Then the riots will begin. Then the molitary coups will begin. Then the nukes will start going off. Mekka, Teheran, Qatar, Baghdad and Tel Aviv will become a glassy irradiated parking lot before 2040. Screencap this.
