What was the political climate at this time and why was it so DAMN comfy.

ah yes, those were the days. 2004 just graduated highschool, 2009 got married.

Back in 2004 I spent a significant amount of time masturbating to online porn, except back then free porn didnt stream full length videos in HD, no no. Back then you'd have to download these little 30 second mpegs previews and make do with that.

And a YouTube video would usually load like shit and you'd have to refresh the page to get it to load right.

And though I went to 4chan once or twice I didn't stay long enough to make any sense of it, and retreated back to ytmnd

and everyone hated ebaums world

and memes had nice borders around them

That was before the liberal cultists got control and forced their sick faggot politics on little children. They aren't just gay wad trannys, they are also child molesters too. That's why they are trying to get them while they are young.

Because you were ignorant. During college these years were as intense as they are today. fist fights were breaking out at the college republican booth at my school every other week the entire election year. We had dirty hippies protesting the war by living in tents and shitting in the storm drains. It was intense.

The only difference was, liberals form that era didn't go after your job if they discovered you weren't liberal. They at least pretended to have discussions, but they were still arrogant smug pricks. I was studying engineering and having artists call me stupid.

During Bush they tried to go after conservatives. They called us racists, they called every republican a Nazi. Just look up "_____ is a Nazi/Hitler" and look up any politician from that time that was a republican.

This shit never changes my friends.

Facebook was explosively popular. You could not have a social life in college without it. There used to be a host of social sites, facebook took them all by storm but it started inside of .edu emails.

Those were the glory days of Facebook. People had parties all the time and everyone was posting anything they wanted. Then as time went on some of us had parents or professors or coworkers joined. At first we made fun of people that added losers from outside the college scene. Then it got worse. As we started leaving the college scene Facebook didn't want to lose us so they opened it up to everyone.

Now the shit we hated the most, is most of what's on it today. Baby pictures, family, mothers and siblings that read everything. I basically stopped using it. It's just a platform for my boss to preach liberal bullshit from.

Because you were young. You were innocent. There were still hundreds if not thousands of brand new experiences you hadn't even yet glimpsed. Every and all opportunity was still ripe in your eyes. You hadn't yet experienced anything that would erase a dream of yours, you still had no idea just how difficult some things were, you still had no idea that there were girls that would reject you, and on the hierarchy of man you had no reason to think you didn't sit on top.

Of course, this is a romanticization. In reality you cried more at that age just as often as you experienced bliss.

>I am trying to rip open the inconsolable secret in each one of you—the secret which hurts so much that you take your revenge on it by calling it names like Nostalgia and Romanticism and Adolescence; the secret also which pierces with such sweetness that when, in very intimate conversation, the mention of it becomes imminent, we grow awkward and affect to laugh at ourselves; the secret we cannot hide and cannot tell, though we desire to do both. We cannot tell it because it is a desire for something that has never actually appeared in our experience. We cannot hide it because our experience is constantly suggesting it, and we betray ourselves like lovers at the mention of a name. [...]

>[...] Our commonest expedient is to call it beauty and behave as if that had settled the matter. Wordsworth’s expedient was to identify it with certain moments in his own past. But all this is a cheat. If Wordsworth had gone back to those moments in the past, he would not have found the thing itself, but only the reminder of it; what he remembered would turn out to be itself a remembering. The books or the music in which we thought the beauty was located will betray us if we trust to them; it was not in them, it only came through them, and what came through them was longing. These things—the beauty, the memory of our own past—are good images of what we really desire; but if they are mistaken for the thing itself they turn into dumb idols, breaking the hearts of their worshipers. For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited.”

Bush absolutely obliterated the credibility of conservatism for years, paving the way for the disaster that was the Obama administration, his supporters, and the zeitgeist of social and economic insanity they've brought about.

But social media was less prevalent and less political. So it wasn't in your face all the fucking time, and the crazies hadn't quite become settled into echo chambers on a massive scale yet.

tldr nostalgia is...bad? and its not based on the things we experienced, but rather it was just that time in our life? idk that studd was a little too heavy to follow.

desu I have a lot of my niche interests relate back to the mid-2000s...and i think I do that (like playing a game from that era, even if i never played it myself) because I want to rekindle the feelings I had of my youth; bike rides with friends, time to do nothing but play games, no smart phones, real friends....or maybe because I feel empty today, my lack of romantic skills. what is life, philosophy...

gah I struggle with "is nostalgia a good or bad thing" past vs reality, happily looking on the past vs escapism...who knows

it was all on a different level back then though. wasn't it? that's the weirdest thing for me still, its like all of us here, on the chans specifically have access to a kind of super brain that nobody else does. I didn't see it this way at first obviously, it was just /b/ with the stupid memes and all that, but it really is something like a global super conscious, the only thing i have seen that is similar is what Jung called the collective unconscious, the only difference being that this one is sentient, it is actively conscious and nothing can stop it so long as it survives. the more people crowd into it the stronger it gets because they must conform, they have no other option, it is conform or be ridiculed and proven wrong endlessly. it will erase all other idologies and thought systems handed down to you or you will leave and once you are here your are here forever, as they say.

does anybody else feel this? that you can almost plug in and connect to another part of your brain that without the endless conversation and memes you are you and only that, a simple one minded person, but with all my anonymous brothers i am an army of thought

it's like something the ancient Illuminati would have dreamed of

>very little SJW type bullshit, yet there wasn't any racial tension, was actually probably the point of least racial tension in the US - hence Obama
>most people were total bluepilled normies who believed everything Bush said and their beliefs barely extended outside of their party dogma if they cared about politics at all(most people didn't)
>the birth of the Zeitgeist generation which created 9/11 is an inside job type conspiracies and mistrust of the government, Alex Jones was actually sane
>people all across the board looked at a corporate elite "illuminati/NWO" as being responsible for the ills of the world instead of the Jews as on the right or white men as on the left today

yeah, it wasn't that comfy if you were paying attention. It was when the division in this country became blatantly apparent.

In the 90s under Bush I and then Bill Clinton, there was still this feeling of a United America. That we were one country and one people, with a few differing views here and there. After the Monica Lewisnky thing, and then the 2000 election which was super close, the country became very divided.

Constant political mudslinging has reigned ever since. Liberals shat on Bush all day every day except in the period right after 9/11. Conservatives shat on Obama day in day out. And now the liberals are doing it to Trump with a heightened intensity.

If the country is to survive we have to figure out how to unify
