Why do many poor rural whites, of whom have no real chance of making it out of the proverbial trailer park, continue to vote for a party that does little to actually improve their lives with things like affordable healthcare via a single payer system and other government assistance. Seems counter productive to vote against someone who wants to send your child a community college for free.

Trump was proposing himself as the president of the Americans, he was not vowing a special treatment for white or males.
Clinton was all about sex and race.
