I can't read this without thinking that all the fat that pays for this is created by having an unregulated private monopoly on data and services.
When will we treat these folks like we did with Big Bell? I'd much more trust the government with my data, given regulations for privacy, or at the very least a demonopolized, decentralized data web than this agglomeration. When one corporation is doing so much better than others, it become clear that they have an unfair advantage.
Also, how much money does the U.S. lose from Google in terms of offshore arrangements and tax shelters?

Well seriously. I trust the government to be accountable to rules regarding privacy more than a corporation that won't even pay taxes domestically.
Railroads, telephones, all were unregulated at one point and came under some amount of federal authority, why should big data be an unregulated monopoly? This clearly only benefits the employees and the owners judging by how prosperous they are.
