Guys I've been thinking about this, why do you use google ? could it be that it's the only search engine that actually works well ?

I have a propososal we, all of us we need numbers, approach the linux foundation and Linus trovalds himself, maybe even richard stallman and ask for a free alternative.

Free in this sense does't need to mean free to use. although it will be

Net neutrality is something linux devs feel very strongly about, if they where to give us a search engine, data would be picked through computer logic not politics. People would stop using google services en masse forcing them to get off of the slippery slope they have started to traverse down.

we should be FREE to consume and search any data we want to without the new grand arbitors of truth like the ADL deciding if it's offensive or professional democrats like snopes "fact checking" when I'm not sure they even live in the same reality.

FFS I saw buzzfeed on google news this morning.

How anyone can take google seriouly at this point is beyond me.

The diversity issue is secondary to me. Kill thier services and I'm sure they'll put 2 and 2 together, maybe they won't come to 5 this time.

>why do you use google
because when the only thing you google is traps, there's no reason not to.
>>
>>136557498
Google’s political bias has equated the freedom from offense with psychological safety, but shaming into silence is the antithesis of psychological safety.
This silencing has created an ideological echo chamber where some ideas are too sacred to be honestly discussed.
The lack of discussion fosters the most extreme and authoritarian elements of this ideology.
Extreme: all disparities in representation are due to oppression
Authoritarian: we should discriminate to correct for this oppression
Differences in distributions of traits between men and women may in part explain why we don’t have 50% representation of women in tech and leadership. Discrimination to reach equal representation is unfair, divisive, and bad for business.

I'm sure you other anons can think of other people/bodies in the linux community to contct, but you get the idea.

We need to keep asking, these people are most likely already not too fond of google practaces
>>
we the end user should define the utility and scope of the service.

Corporate interests cannot put (much) pressure on linux or linux devs, as they are so heavily reliant on the free software it produces.

Use Brave Browser (Mozilla founder fired for conservative donations Brendan rich's project) and SearX.me (privacy focused search engine).

Or use Startpage because it uses google searches but doesn't pay them for it. Also doesn't track you at all.
>>
>>136557369
Check on /g/ they have good suggestions.

I use duckduckgo, but I'm afraid they are somewhat comprimised as well. Google sucks ass desu.

Someone said that they are selling ur search info as well.

Yandex seems pretty interesting, it's based in Moscow tho, if anyone has any suggestions for e-mail and search engines, by all means, share it with us.
>>
>>136561649
Oh well if "someone" said it I hate duckduckgo now.

I've used this riseup.net for email since Snowden fucked lavabit for us.

startpage is a good search engine.
It mirrors google search without tracking you

Youre retarded as fuck

Linux has fuck all to do with search engines. They have no patents, no connections, no infrastructure, no experience.

Also, google is a member of the linux foundation you aspie fuck
>>
>>136557369
>why do you use google ?

I don't. What you're looking for already exists. It's called Startpage or Ixquick.

Actually, is Bing any good for normal search use? I'm positive the end results are relatively the same but what are the nuances compared to jewgle

Which is why I said approach the foundation a "free" search engine is something they'll understand the need for.
>>
>>136562383
I'd be rather suprised if the foundation didn't have patents. Why else would they look for free code in non free software?
>>

Yesterday I switched to DuckDuckGo
>>

>What is the best Linux distribution for a beginner
Any. A few things are conceptionally different from Windows (not so much from Mac) and you have to learn those either way, there is no Distro that is "just like Windows but free".
>>
>>136560426
I'm prerty sure that startpage will still fall foul of ADL censorship. Plus can I really trust a "private" search engine I heard about on coast2coast ?
>>

Mint or fedora
>>
>>136557369
porn. google has a better porn search than anyone else. that's why they are successful.
>>
>>136566752
Especially NOT fedora with their mindless cutting edge attitude that breaks everything even via minor updates.
>>
>>136566792
And it all goes in your file.

>Somehow people are forgetting that google always was and always will be the NSA
>>
>>136566863
I used to like it, specifically for the rolling updates. The question was best for newbs, can't really tell them gentoo or arch can I?
>>
>>136566954
I tend to end up in the Arch wiki very often even while using Debian. Their documentation is superb and they actually explain things.
So I would classify Arch as newb friendly, Gentoo not so much.
>>
>>136559560

The problem is, any tech company that grows big will get bitten by a SJW bug, and we go through the same problem.

The alternative has to be decentralized, and doesn't require a big data center to operate.

> Not knowing the meaning of the word 'penultimate'
>>
>>136569955
This is another reason to try and get linux devs to try and make us a new search engine/client Linus is famously intolerant.
>>
>>136565856
It uses Google results without giving them your details. Unless you're gonna find someone who will run a massive server farm to power "open source" search engine, you're gonna be shot out of luck.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
