Russia as it has existed from the early days of Muscovy to today has always been authoritarian. The entire nation is built around the state and protecting it's easily asailable geographic location. It has been invaded from every front many times in it's history and will more than likely never embrace democracy unless it it destoyed and rebuilt. My English teacher told me in 8th grade something I would never forget. She lived 20 of the 30 years of her life in the USSR and coldly said to me, "Democracy just doesn't work for the Russian people. They just need to be told what to do." 1. Communism is the USSR.
The USSR is a socialist state, not a communist state.
