How did prices get this out of whack?

Why are we spending so much time trying to figure out how to pay a bill like this and save figuring out why the system is this broken?

Also if you are anti obamacare, and got this bill today, could you afford it?

the healthcare system is a disgrace but antivenom isn't exactly a good example.

the stuff is typically rare because it is so seldom used and required urgently so transport costs are very high.
>>
>>136536107
Any advice for those of us who are stuck here though?
>>
You basically pretended buying health insurance is like buying bread and milk. Your entire health care system is about funding research and development. This is sick, but your healthcare system benefits me more than it benefits you and of course I'm uncomfortable with that.
>>
>>136535957
>if you are anti obamacare, and got this bill today, could you afford it?
What does the first have to do with the later?
>>
>>136535957
Yes because I actually have insurance because I have accumulated experience and skills that let me find gainful employment at a company that offers exceedingly great insurance. Also a lot of medical debt can be forgiven/worked out. Dumb fucks don't know how to talk/figure out installments and such. Also all you faggots crying about people dying without insurance are retarded. You won't ever be denied service at a hospital of you're dying. They have to treat you. And furthermore that bill would be significantly cheaper if you told them you wanted to pay in cash and not with insurance. A lot of prices are inflated because of Medicare and insurance bullshit.

You are right. At-least it's cheaper to break your ankle.
>>
>>136535957
because bullshit like obamacare (private insuarance) is the reason these prices are so high. When your insurance pays the hospital, they do not pay any of that money. It's a giant fucking racket. nobody pays the sticker price. Ever.

When insurance companies make contracts with hospitals they go "lol we will pay this much for x, BUT you have to change people without insurance x+1000%.

When you go to a hospital and dont have insurance, you know what happens? You dont pay that price either. instead you 'negotiate' a much lower price, the price they actually expect you to pay. It's a huge fucking scam, and it's enforced by government regulations and protections. insurance has its own insurance and the government bails everyone out which is why prices are so fucking high. Obango care only made it worse by encouraging more people with no money to go to the hospital for shit htey didnt need, cha ching.

of course i don't think so but when you only have a hand full of businesses around the country milking certain species of snakes to produced a certain kind of anti-venom which has a limited shelf life and is required very, very quickly after exposure, the costs pile up very quickly.

Did I say that was a solution? The solution would be to stop the artificial rises in tuition of college/med school. Stop the frivolous lawsuits of malpractice. Unregulate and allow insurance to be sold across state lines. That would probably help alleviate a lot of the issues we see. But as I said current year you can go to the doctor with cash payments/installment plans that aren't those inflated insurance costs. Just one way. The other is stop being a worthless piece of shit and get a good job that provides healthcare.

Paying for hospital bill is for cucks and retards.
I got hit by a car and the ER gave me a $25k bill. I just never paid it and ignored all their calls and letter. They never sent it to collections or anything either because they know better. Even if they did it drops off your credit report in 7 years.

It's a fucking joke. Inevitably one of you brainwashed retards will retort people go to the US for care. Yes, if you can pay you get better care. That's the same here.

The difference is you think you're not socialized, yet the 10 000 dollar bandaids exist because hospitals are socializing the cost of illegal mexicans at the ER onto you. Yet you lick the boots of insurers and hospitals.

You can't count on a basic healthcare so the majority of all visits become extra expensive ER visits. A person who needs an antiseptic wash and some antibiotics, now comes into the ER with a gangrenous hand. Specialist hand surgeon and million dollar costs they can't pay that's transferred onto you, the dumb average working stiff. And you kiss the boot of your corporate masters for being so nice.

Insurance companies get sweetheart deals from phamacists and doctors. What costs you $10k might cost an insurance company only $100.

If health insurance were outlawed, prices would collapse within a week. It's all just Jewish lies. Any problems that insurance or debt supposedly fix, are far outweighed by the ever increasing burden the create in the future. They're basically breaking your legs, then selling you crutches, then act like they are the good guys.
>>
People don't realize that this is a result of crony capitalism between hospitals and insurensures.
All the prices are inflated for insurance companies so they can get the illusion of discounts.
The shit part about this is if you don't have insurance you get these inflated prices as well.

What bothers me is why hasn't there been a hospital/business that tries to fight this shit and cause actual market competition that will drive down prices.

Martin Skreli comes to mind but he did that to make the means for research and development have more funding and forcing the government and insurance companies pay more for it.

>figuring out why the system is this broken?
A majority of cost is in the payment of employees. This is a factor across the board.

Until you can get THE ENTIRE MEDICAL INDUSTRY to work for less and stay practicing in your 1 stop-light town than prices will stay high.

This is exactly why the ACA will fail. This is why EVERY attempt to FORCE-INSURE people will result in increased costs to the middle class. The costs are dictated by the medical industry, not muh gubmint. Certainly not by the poor or middle class.

Wake the fuck up. Watch how simple this is:

>Have leaking commode.
>The materials are made from semi-precious metal
>Semi-skilled half sober people install them with torch
>Home not burned down
>Home not flooded
>Shitter works again

Why did this cost $500?

Because the training factors into the cost. Its worth $500 to not have your downstairs flooded right?

Is it worth $150,000 to survive another day?

>Stimulating the economy
How is your rotting corpse stimulating the economy? Who pays for cleaning up dead bodies of hermits?

>>
>>136537028
Only partly. It's the insurance industry heckling and lobbying hospitals for lower prices so the hospitals finally said "Fuck it, fine" but just lowered the prices from their new increased ones.

Some of the price is also caused by the 3x work load due to having to report to both government AND insurance agencies.

So 3 different industries are trying to get their cut.

The only fault of the government is that it isn't involved ENOUGH to shut down these bullshit insurance agencies. But neither party wants to be blamed for the loss of that many jobs.
>>
>>136535957
Because rather than focusing on lowering costs of health care and not preventing the oligarchy in the health care industry thanks to extensive red tape, politicians like to divert it to other topics. Health Insurance should not be regulated like it is right now; deregulation for that is necessary. Things like being able to keep your insurance from your job even after you lose is or being able to buy insurance from other states while still being covered would drop prices significantly. Furthermore, it is insurance. You don't buy it after the fact. You can't get insurance on your car after it has been in an accident (unless through fraud or similar means).

Healthcare in the US is a big scam. They bill at rediculously high rates because the billing system is based on billing insurance companies not individuals. The idea is that if they bill an enormous rate, as long as sometimes someone pays it, then it's worth it. Otherwise it's counted as a massive write off and generates a fake paper loss.

Imagine you bill 10 people a 1,000,000 bill for emergency surgery. Imagine 1 person can pay through an insurance company. The other 9 can't pay that, so they bleed them as much as they can for money. Let's say they manage to collect 100,000 from each person. So out of a 10 mil bill they collected 2. But guess what? Since they "incured" another 8 million they won't collect, they write it off as a business loss and offset their income.

Now they collected 2 million and have no official income. Welcome to the scam.

One reason for bills like this, especially towards niggers, is because the hospital knows they won't pay whether it's $20 or $200,000. So they hike the bill up as high as possible and write it off. That way they at least make a small amount back from wasting resources.

>>
>>136545978
The billing rates are a scam.

Let me give you another example. Let's say I own 10 rentals. These rentals generate income of say...100,000 a year. Well if I could get away with it, why not find a way to create a huge paper loss so I can say I didn't make any money. Maybe I could say that I had people provide super expensive maintenence, but paid in cash so there's no easy paper trail.

Or say the system was different and I was able to jack up the rent price on a few of the units to 5,000 a month, way beyond their ability to pay. I let them know it's ok, and I generate a huge loss, ect. The income generating properties give me income while the hyper inflated cost units generate a massive loss.

What if I could say the rent as 10,000 a month and they were only paying me 1,000?

There's no chance they could pay 1,000 a month.

A couple of things fucked up in that story.

Why wouldn't you just wash your hand and use antibiotics if your hand injury only needed that? Are you stupid or something? Are you really so stupid that you wouldn't go get $10 in medical supplies to ignore a hospital visit?

And when your hand gets red, you didn't go to the local ER clinics that are all over the place? You go in and pay maybe $50 to see a doctor within 30 minutes and they give you some stronger antibiotics and a shot. No you're a goddamn retard. Your hand is turning green and black and you ignore it cause you hope it will go away.

Then one night after a weel of being in insufferably agony while your diseased hand festers, you finally go to the ER, you never ask how much any procedure will cost, and somehow you wind up at a hospital where there's some super specialist who happens to be into bringing dead limbs back from the dead because hey that's just a thing we have in America with our super fucking tech.

Nah, just kidding, we can't bring hands back from the dead. They saw your hand off and then they charge you out the ass for the hotel luxury quality stay where all your meals and whims are taken care of while they pump you full of drugs to keep you from losing any more parts of your body.

And then yeah I guess at that point you could feasibly have some costs like OP. Good job, you were retarded and now you have to pay for expensive education in not fucking your body up.

Learn how to fucking read. The drivers of healthcare cost is not directly correlated to quality of care in the US. Health Insurance companies negotiate prices for their insureds and set the price for uninsureds astronomically high because uninsureds have no leverage.

Why would health insurance companies pay for uninsured?

Obviously they are gonna jack up The prices if government forces them to pay for someone who didn't pay a dime in insurance pool.

Your health system is messed up. Or either Americans don't know how insurance works.

Anyway insurance is not equal to health care

It depends on how the value of service is being calculated.

For example, I once dated a girl that suffered from depression. She swallowed a whole bottle of pills one time. I drove her to the er. They made her sign a paper saying she would pay them in full before providing any services. She didn't want to sign.

They ended up waiting after the 4 or 5 hour marker to give her charcoal to ingest to absorb the pills, which essentially made their treatment pointless and not valuable. Then they tried to find ways to drive up the cost of the bill. I think they ended up billing her like 10,000 for laying on a bed in a hospital for 5 or so hours taking charcoal hours after it would have ever been effective.
>>
>>136547920
US FDA has banned even genuine drugs.

Pharmaceutical companies in USA lobby FDA to ban competitive drugs/Medical instruments.

There is reason Epipen costs $600 in USA but not in other places.

Honestly, that's my biggest reason for opposing single payer. We do such a shit job of managing all of the other public funds, I do not trust my government to create anything but a massive clusterfuck that bankrupts our country even faster than it's on pace for if we hand over all healthcare to them.
>>
Pretty sure when the government pays for it or subsidises it, the prices go through the roof
>>
>>136535957
Also less healthcare = less tax.

But the US should have healthcare now?
What the fuck happened?
>>
1. American hospitals overcharge for basic care and basic supplies. The worst offenders have seen mark-ups in the thousands of percents for really basic equipment, like neck braces or IV bags.

2. Pharmaceutical and healthcare supply companies also mark-up their products based on a number of factors.

3. Despite the ban on rejecting people based on pre-existing conditions, insurance companies will still use high premiums and out-of-pocket maximums to make you pay thousands before they'll start paying anything.

The root of the problem in America is that there is not a large enough group of patients with a lobby for themselves. In places like the UK, their national healthcare systems can lobby on behalf of their 'customers' to haggle on prices for care and supplies. In the US, this just isn't so. I don't see it changing anytime in the future, either, as hospitals, pharma companies, and insurance companies have poured billions into lobbying Washington to keep things this way.

All of these charges are overinflated as fuck simply because they try to see what they can get away with. We literally need insurace companies to talk them down on this bullshit for us, which you will notice is not the intended primary function of an insurance company.

How this shit continues to be legal when every politician pretends to care about healthcare is beyond me.
>>
>>136549957
Produce your shit quality generic pharmaceuticals and we'll continue to enforce the patents on US designed pharmaceuticals in the US. We will then simply apply a tariff to any Indian generic pharmaceutical to make them much more expensive than American produced generic pharmaceuticals. That's assuming quality is similar which will never happen. You have no chance, sorry.

>Cultural hegemony is the domination of a culturally diverse society by the ruling class who manipulate the culture of that society—the beliefs, explanations, perceptions, values, and mores—so that their imposed, ruling-class worldview becomes the accepted cultural norm; the universally valid dominant ideology, which justifies the social, political, and economic status quo as natural and inevitable, perpetual and beneficial for everyone, rather than as artificial social constructs that benefit only the ruling class.

- You think they are scamming the healthcare system, paying CEOs too much and don't need those funds.

>>136545978
Don't be so simplistic. That is not what the anon was talking about. You should have to pay for that mistake.
>>
Your obamacare is just dumb.

We have universal health care here in Indonesia but our government actually have the balls to demand and force all the health care providers and suppliers to lower cost.

Prices for supplies got halved across the country within a year.

Sure its bad for the industry but people still find a way to remain profitable.

Obamacare fails to actually cap how much the government should spend per patient per treatment so your health care providers just charges the government up the ass.

In short, universal health care can work, but only if your government isn't a cuck like Obama did with ACA.
