California is filled with some of the stupidest most incompetent people in the entire US

If California seceded and was then invaded by the US, California would be obliterated. The first area to fall would be the Norther section due to that area being more conservative and wanting to create their own state for over a decade. They would break away from California and rejoin the US as their own state thus already having a good portion of the area back. With out the Northern part, the rest of California would suffer due to the area providing a huge amount of its necessary resources. Not to mention, most of the troops station in Cali were not born in the state so they would side with the US. The areas around the major cities are as well conservative and own a huge amount of guns so they would form militias to combat the rebels and join US forces. That just leaves the major liberal cities still standing but they will not have access to outside resources and would be plagued by infighting from gangs along with police and military forces still loyal to the US, along with few of the citizen who supported the movement having access to weapons. The US military and militias formed that are loyal to the US could easily just surround the cities and starve them out due to their lack of food and just watch as they fall apart. After the US retook California, the state would be split up to punish those who rebelled and to reward those who stayed loyal to the country and the parts that remain as California would be a laughing stock due to how easily they were defeated.

You wouldn't even need force to take it. Something like 85% of Los Angeles counties' drinking water is imported from other states. 30-40% for the rest of Cali. Simply end the distribution agreements, cut off supply, they'll be fucked in a few months or years at best as their agriculture industry dries up in order to divert drinking water to their overpopulated cities. Also, you can easily ruin their other 2 industries as well. Entertainment and tech. Neither of these 2 industries require a physical tie to California. Simply place a huge tariff on California produced entertainment or tech, offer enormous tax breaks and incentives to businesses in those sectors to relocate to middle America, and there goes their 2nd and 3rd biggest economies... We already know this model works because it is literally happening right now. Film and tech and moving out to the silicon prairie for lower col.
