I already have a BA in History/Poli Sci. Finishing up my masters in government this year. I don't think any of these degrees would translate to more than 2 or 3 paygrade promotions. Most MOSes that give you trades and transferable skills aren't warrior ones. I understand wanting to see combat (I did too), but OIR is about your only slim chance as of right now (unless the Korean War goes hot again) and that's Saudi Arabia and America's doing. By being in, you'll be defending the nation - but your deployments typically won't. The bankers and Israel benefiting from spilled American blood is very real, America hasn't fought a war truly in her interest in a very, very long time. Also, if you do join, the whole "taking orders" thing will often bug you a lot more than you think because of shitty leaders that weasel their way into ranks they disgrace. The camaraderie and pleasant memories are great (only things I miss about the Marines), you might get to mulch ragheads, and you get gibs if that's your thing (a lot of other vets piss me off with their abuse of it), but keep in mind:

Your downsides aren't really accurate.

1. You won't be spending your time enforcing imperialist wishes, you'll be spending it beating off waiting for the weekend or deployment.

2. "taking orders" is the same as having a job. Just with a boss who isn't a cuck.

3. If you're planning on being a POG like you say you are, especially with an MOS that has a high ASVAB requirement, you probably won't see combat period.

4. Depends on what you mean by notable. 4-ish years to be a sergeant for active duty, maybe 10-12 to be a warrant officer if you don't get waived in.

I was a tanker in the US army with the 11ACR for OIF3 in 2005-2006. If i could do it over again I would have either a) gone SF and went to sniper school or b) joined intel and moved up the ladder into the CIA or NSA.

Why sniper school? Because if you want a skill that can be taken back with you into the civilian world this is it. It allows you to kill almost anyone, or raise holy hell being a one man army. Its the most powerful thing you can learn/become.

CIA/NSA gives you POWER in the political world. Look at how much power these goons have with all these leaks, etc. Whatever you choose, pick the MOS that will give you the MOST POWER. Think 20 years ahead.

Me? I chose tanker. Why? Because i wanted to see combat up front. Everything i mastered on the M1A1 gave me ZERO skills or power to take back with me into the civilian world. Its a worthless MOS. Always aim to increase your power level.

Going into my last year before getting my BS in mechanical engineering. Seriously considering joining the AF out of college as a flight officer. It was always my dream to be a pilot. If that didn't work I could join as an engineer. Thought I could use my GI bill to get a MS. Is this a viable option?

If you are a not so smart, or maybe even a little above average, and join the marines...

It's basically a prep course. You learn how to handle your shit, and the roughest aspects of combat or just fucking die.

But it's one of the few branches that actually serves to weed out and prepare soldiers for other things. Marines with 3-4 years of combat exp can literally do whatever they want. They're first in line for real spec ops, and can literally join any federal agency easier than anyone else.

This all might sound a little off, but "the few, the strong, the marines" shit actually has a secret meaning.

Of course only a few marines actually go on to become something greater, but the US has one of the best grooming systems in the world.

While presenting itself as the most straightforward branch, it's actually the least. Being an AF linguist is straightforward and basically a static position in a sense. But it requires tons of intelligence, while the marines would rather put you through the strainer to see if you're a shiny rock.

I'm probably not explaining this very well, and you might just be better off finding one of the "few" and hoping they'll be able to explain it to you in a way you can get.
