The problem is the left's belief that they have the right to censor any opinions beyond their own.

I'm just not convinced that a full 20% of the population is capable of making proper decisions.
What's more, just because spiritual leaders/merchants wield power doesn't mean that they are loyal of the state. Perhaps a Starship Troopers approach where you have to first service in the military to prove your loyalty to the state.
