Slavery was a way to drastically increase production before industrialization was invented. That's why literally every nation on the planet employed it, it's simply the best system for a technologically unadvanced people. Unlike industrialization though, it's more expensive to run and you have the constant risk of a slave uprising (especially when the slave population gets several times bigger than the citizen population). Not sure how much influence kikes had in the slave trade back then. They probably had some but I think people in general had a more realistic view of niggers. They were viewed as sub-human, childlike spear-chucking apes and were used for hard labor since they weren't really good for much else.
