So I have a connect through a family friend to a somewhat higher up HR guy at intel. Recently finished school with a good degree and good grades so what hoping to maybe get an in, or at the very least some advice. He told me off the record that should I choose to apply, "don't hold your breath" because there is a major internal push to hire only women and non asian minorities at ground floor level positions. Needless to say this rustles my jimmies, because the thought that Jamal with a 3.0 from a shitty state school would be viewed as a better candidate than myself simply on the grounds that he's "diverse" basically puts me in a Kafkaesque situation.
Is it actually in a companies best interest to do this? Would the business gained by virtue signalling overcome the lost productivity based on hiring only by merit? Will this get better or worse in the short term?
Should we create a list of (((diverse))) companies to boycott?
I wouldn't really call that "Kafkaesque".
Anyway you shouldn't be working for large corporations anyway. Act small, act local.
