I tried to believe, I studied it, I went to church for years. I wanted to be Christian, but deep down it could never 'make myself believe'. Paganism feels like a 'homecoming' I suppose.

Second and if you don't mind to tell, what was the denomination you were more or less subscribing to ? (or denominations that you "tried out" so to speak)
So the next question would be whether you prayed sincerely or not. I'm asking this, because looking at Christianity by "academic means" so to speak - and that includes the simple "going to Church" - can never bring your faith to life. It is always just "dry" and "boring". Prayer is what makes you believe deep down in your heart.
Also, you can only receive salvation through means of prayer and communion in an authorized Church.
