Other than religion and god, I agree with him on almost everything. Most of what he says is strictly rational and doesn't move into the realm of opinion too much, so it's not really surprising that smart people would agree with one another.

he's kind of conservative but with libertarian leanings which is where I sit right now, that is to say that there is a belief that conservatism leads to the happier lifestyle (which it statistically does) but that we shouldn't force anyone to be that way.

The fact he's religious just speaks to how powerful indoctrination really is, it's the only profoundly wrong thing he believes, near as I can tell.

Well that depends on your friends doesn't it? and also the way you bring it up - if you're too outwardly trying to show how conservative you are they will polarize with you.
If you only share your opinion, in a manner that says "well I think it's like this but if you don't agree that's cool", when the conversation desires such an opinion (i.e don't just suddenly start spouting off your conservative views of every subject in the world at the drop of a hat) then you should be fine.

Over time your friends will accept that's who you are, they probably won't even notice.
