I'll start.

Much like the IRA or other groups, the phenomenon of confederates existing in 2017 is not only normal, but to be expected. People will always be partisan to the fringe, the mid, and the neutral within the politico-sphere.

The truth is, the confederacy was one side of a two sided governmental structure. This was an all encompassing system that was brought to its knees - it was not only the ownership of slaves; it was their whole economic framework.

Simply expecting the confederate identity to disappear, or become abandoned is like asking blacks to give up the "slavery" mentality.

Point is, it's cultural, and if african americans taught us anything, it's not going away for a long time.
