That's false, though. Suppose you neuter your cat. Is it a "dead end" for your poor cat's genes? Is it impossible for your sterile cat to promote the propagation of his genes, since he can't reproduce? The answer is: he shares half his genes with each parent, and half with each sibling. His genes are propagated by the survival and reproduction of his relatives. Even though he will have no offspring of his own. Any offspring he would have produced would have shared the same amount of DNA with him as either of his parents or any of his siblings.
