I am the Lord thy God; thou shalt not have strange gods before Me.
How can I make this fundamental change in my live prescribed by the first commandment? I have lived my life so far placing myself at the center of my world and only faced misery as a result. Even when I try to develop myself I am left with feelings of guilt and never fully achieving my potential. I understand that Jesus died for my sins and I am only saved by his grace. But I cannot get this message to sink into my heart where it will fundamentally change my worldview. Any tips?
Be on the lookout for where you can make a change in other peoples lives. It is god that places us in situations, but it is we who decide how to act in that situation. If you start acting the way god wants you to you should start feeling him closer. Unfortunately for myself I have spoiled many opportunities where I could have made someones day at no cost to myself. I pray god will let me revisit these situations so I can make the right choice.

>placing myself at the center of my world
how's that working out for you?
Try the opposite. Place your Self at the heart of all you meet, all you see and all you are. Live your life in service to others as you live it in service to God.
Give thanks everyday for your life, for the space and time to realise your true Self. Let Grace pour into your heart. Fill your Self with God's love and come to realise that his love is your love. His heart is your heart and His life is your life.
Jesus died as a man to see that he was God. The Gospel, the Good News, has always been that all of us, all human beings, must die to be reborn in God. This is not a literal death but a symbolic death that occurs when you give up your pretensions, your perversions, your arrogance and your pride.

Thank you Anon. Placing myself at the center has only led to nihilism and disgust with myself and the world. I am finally over my edgy atheism stage and have come to accept that the teachings of Christ have been right all along. Now the hard part of living the teachings to the best of my ability.
Do you have places to go to learn more about Christ's teachings? I've recently read Mark and Matthew as well as several C.S. Lewis books which I've loved. I'd particularly like podcasts or youtube videos to supplement reading.
