well it has to be the best/most secure way to invest the money. otherwise, these investment firms would be destroyed by other ones who play it your way (assuming that it's the superior way to invest). i don't have an extensive knowledge on investing at the moment, but these firms have hundreds of people who study the market and make what they believe are the best investments. i think they split them up between things like buying bonds, stocks, and other things, which allows them to take some risk but still be somewhat secure in their investing. normally the stock portion of their portfolios will be rather small because it's more risky, despite the fact that it can have a higher payoff. but i couldn't really give you definite answers without working at one of those firms or studying up on the subject a lot more than i have

I'm not getting a cent from my parents. A lot of decent millionares don't promise their kids anything either and they live til 90 so the inheritance doesn't kick in until they're nearly dead.
