“My duty is to be close to those who are afraid, to reassure them, to liberate them from fear,” said Mr. Minniti, who argued that the left can no longer afford to ignore or look down on people scared by immigration or terrorism.
“I think fear is the crucial element of the next 10 years in democracy,” he said. “In Italy and all the world.”

Did you read his words? He's saying he wants to reach peace in Libya very soon to STOP the migration and he sympathizes with people who are against refugees and immigration.
He seems to be the old style European communist. Italy had a very strong Communist party so that's no surprise.

Minniti is a more realist guy than what we had before him, but his policies aren't producing many results that the people can see during their everyday life.
They put him in charge too late (he took the job in December 2016 and we are going to have elections in spring 2018 ).
