If a man is still obligated to his former wife, then how is he divorced? If he remarries isn't he basically being forced to play husband to two women, while getting the benefits from only one? Alimony seems like a euphemism for state enforced polygamy. More to the point, it basically allows women the ability to dissolve their responsibilities in the relationship with zero consequences.
