I was there maybe a month ago, and I spent the night. It seemed pretty cozy. It was predominantly white, at least around the center. Mexicans live on the outskirts. yeah i'm moving down to Tucson to attend UofA and major in comp sci. seriously considering becoming a permeant resident in the sate depending on where jobs are and how o'll like living down there. I'm from the PNW in a dry deserty part so the heat isn't that shocking, but i do like the parts of the PNW kinda in the mountains outside of the major cities where you can have some peace and quiet.

Good to hear it brother. I'm actually leaving Phoenix soon since my company is transferring me, but I was born and raised and am happy to share my opinions:

Stick to the east valley if you move here. Avoid Maryvale and south mountain neighborhood. My friend lives in south Phoenix and hears sirens like every night.

I also read an article that said we had the biggest increase in tech jobs as a percentage of what it was before of any metro area outside California. Make of that what you will.

Tempe is actually a pretty cool college town as well. Scottsdale is like the Beverley Hills of the desert.

If your girlfriend works in bars or restaurants, most places start hiring a lot late summer.

Here's something I've realized about Phoenix in the summer: it's way easier to escape than the sticky heat of the east. When I lived in Alabama, even when I drove to the beach I was still miserable from the humidity. Here, in just 90 minutes you can be camping in a pine forest.

The downsides though, spoken in honesty: the city is super spread out. It all feels like a big suburb, just strip malls, cookie cutter houses, low-density office parks. There are very few historical buildings or interesting neighborhoods. Some people say it has a very "thin" culture and weak sense of community... people are more cautious about who they let into their lives. They have a very "this is MY house, this is MY yard" mentality. And finally, having only very small trees, cacti and desert bushes around wears on some people who are used to lots of trees.
