Americans have always loved vigilante flicks and revenge fantasies. Hell, that's why Taken was so popular.

Hm, the original Death Wish was more of a psychological thriller/drama than an action movie. Paul Kersey was a pacifist who was driven to vigilantism after his wife was killed and his daughter was raped. The first time he actually kills someone, he runs home and pukes his guts out.

This movie looks like more of a straight-up action flick. Still, it could be fun, like Taken.

Yes. I mean the kill count is pretty diverse for 1974, but there is a scene where people are talking about him and his vigilante exploits, and a woman says he is racist because he kills more blacks, and the guy says no it's just because blacks commit more crimes.

The film is meant to be a dark descent of a man who has had everything that he cares about taken away and finds pleasure or dark satisfaction in violently exacting justice.

Not only that he is morally righteous, he isn't just killing because he enjoys it, he is righting wrong. Such a good movie. Shame it is so 70's in style, that part hasn't aged well at all.

To be fair, in the 70s whites were more likely to commit violent crime than today. Byproduct of lead exposure via leaded gasoline contaminating the environment.
