The bigger issue is what it would represent. The very fact that you can so easily change the constitution so easily in other countries is the problem. In America, the process of Constitutional Convention is seen as a safeguard to protect the states from an out of control federal entity. The constitution is sacred and the rights it bestows are even more sacred. For republicans to call a convention with the intention of altering a single one of those rights would be interpreted by the general citizen as a massive overstepping of their bounds.
