Even though French used Gas first and serrated bayonets were pretty common. To be honest I accidentally mixed this up with an other Prussia-memeball.
Anyway the squads protesting were lead by Jews.

serrations on bayonets were for utility, not some magical anti-personnel property. Wwi (and to a lesser extent, wwii) was at the tail end of the period of European militaries issuing swords and large bayonets to troops, who ended up using them more for camp chores unless they were officers keeping up appearances or cavalrymen who could expect to use them in combat.

The above observations about usage of large bayonets and swords has more to do with the end of the period of their issue, just to be clear. Before that they were quite useful supplements to guns, though many models of short sword were issued at times that were considered better for utility than combat, whether due to design of the weapons or the role of troops assigned them, even when swords were still useful.
>looks just like your neoclassical statues, but not too useful a weapon for an artilleryman. decent at chopping stuff at camp, though.

It was actually developed to be a cheap, multirole fighter with a huge advantage in networking and ground domination.
Its a succesor to the F16 falcon.
The f22 is air domination, its bigger, its stealthier, it has 2 engines instead of one, its a successor to the F15 Eagle

Thanks my friend, I knew bayonets were at the dawn of their common usage, just like repeative carbines, cavalry or direct artillery fire, but this explanation still was a quite good lesson.
IN WW1 the greatest Problem with bayonets probably was their uselessness for trench warfare, as the rifles and blades were made extra Long, with the aim of reaching the enmy earlier and by that Happening en masse in a Close quarters Engagement, after an effective Charge reduced enemy numbers and Moral, but this could not have been done in open fields as planned, because fire and firing superiority, was not just an acceptable and minor factor on the battlefield anymore.
After assault tactics and Storm Troops were established and perfected and rifles were made Shorter, it got somewhat of a Comeback.
In WW2 where there were no extensive trench-formations to fight with, but new effective fire Support by much lighter Machinepistols and Machineguns, during an attack, which now could be made through Areas with much visual or defensive cover like woods, jungles, hedgegrows, high grass or cornfields.
Urban combat gave the carbine and bayonet a new Dimension of importance for that period, but as American Units had shown, now rate of fire and cover was superior to quick light-infantry-assaults,marksmenship and Close-quarters combat.
