If you are older then that, you are a moron.

Hosting videos requires decent servers, and anything even remotely on youtube's level would require huge amounts of cash. Not even factoring in the employees you'd need to run and upkeep the site.

Nobody on 4chan, or even the entirety of 4chan, is going to be able to come up with the hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars that would go into that kind of enterprise.

(the exception is maybe Notch. Go bother him.)

Video hosting website =/= video game, it's a different ball game. Those videos don't just exist in the ether, they have to be stored somewhere. Pic related is one of googles many server warehouses.

Massive storage will be necessary if videos are to be archived permanently or long term. Otherwise you'd need to compromise and constantly delete older content.

Right now Liveleak isn't too bad of an alternative but (((they))) are trying to get to it.

The funny part is Youtube was awesome when it first started. It had everything full TV episodes no ads, it was great. Then they cracked down on pirates, got bought by google and became the pc police.

The hard part isn't creating the website, it's the endless cash you'd need for data centers. Youtube has NEVER made a profit. It's a constant drain on money because of all the data and bandwidth it chews through.

Most workable idea would to be a raid on some other existing video platform to take it over. Become the user base before it gets corporate.

It's being worked on but the means to keep it functioning, ie breaking even (not even thinking about profit), is taking some extreme thinking outside the box.

And as others have said, there are other obstacles as well. Things like patents and market share. The reason youtube makes all this openware is because a lot of their terms make it impossible to use it to compete. So by providing the freeware, others have no reason to produce similar software therefore making the only alternatives a fake means to compete. Its kind of a bullshit cycle of asskissing and fake promises.
