That being said, in only works for societies that have molded themselves to fit it, or with small-scale political units. It is stupid to apply democracy to economic or other matters.

I thought I did. Not so sure now. Do the people even elect the Electoral College voters? I'm pretty sure yes but I've never heard of any elections for them before (they serve life terms maybe and that's why - elections are rare?)? Also the Electoral College doesn't even have to follow the popular vote for their state, so is it really a democracy? It is a very unique system we have. People vote for people to vote for the President. I do like the three bodies for checks and balances, although the Judiciary and Supreme Court is fucking powerless compared to the other two (pardons, no enforcement like with Jackson's Trail of Tears, etc).
