Again, that is up to you to believe, but the firm I work for is in Fintech but not directly involved in algorithmic trading. Our firm is more focused on ML research if anything. We work with hedgefunds often though, we hire Math PhD's and CS majors from top schools mostly.

There is a dearth of people who have Math PhDs or any sound mathematical ability willing to work for firms like us, but the demand in Fintech is exponential. Keep in mind we are an American firm and if you impose your arbitrary jingoistic rules, all it will result in is lost jobs for Americans. An economy benefits when workers complement each other in heavily demanded professions.

There's a reason why I have offers for double my current pay, but I find my current position very comfy due to the fact that my Green Card process is tied to it. Something like the raise act would allow me to create a startup.

Also, the flash crash was 15 mins long, literally. It caused zero losses on net, this is common knowledge.

I am one of those math PhD's, and Americans were rare in my doctoral program. Wish we'd had more. It's hard for students to get into such a PhD program, because they're filled with foreigners.
