BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:25 P.M.) – The Syrian Ministry of Defense (MoD) has released a 2-minute video showing the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies advancing on the hills to the south and west of al-Sukhnah town in eastern Homs Governorate.

In the video can be see a wide range of heavy fire support assets of the pro-government forces being thrown into the battle. This includes attack helicopters of the Russian Aerospace Forces (RuAF), tactical bombers of the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) and medium howitzer of SAA.

The footage also shows a close-up of ISIS defenses near al-Sukhnah that are quite literally built into the hills around the strategic town. To this effect, an intricately designed, interconnected ISIS bunker system with multiple fire positions is toured through.

In recent hours, SAA shock troops managed to enter the town of al-Sukhnah from the southwestern direction. Clashes are ongoing and it appears that ISIS fighters will attempt to hold onto the strategic town for as long as it possibly can, even if it means being under the fire control of pro-government forces.

However, the Islamic State’s success would be short-lived once Syrian Army reinforcements poured into the area to help drive back the terrorists later this afternoon.

According to a military source, the Syrian Army and National Defense Forces have pushed ISIL out of Al-Mafkar, while recapturing Nizar 3 and Nizar 4 checkpoints.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:28 P.M.) – The leadership for Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Damascus’ East Ghouta region has published a statement saying that the local jihadist chapter was ready to disband itself and allow its fighters to be merged into the ranks of other militant groups for the purposes of creating a combined operations room.

The one condition for doing this, HTS stated, was that all other militant groups in eastern Damascus had to be willing to dissolve themselves as well.

This offer comes after recent news about East Ghouta’s Faylaq al-Rahman faction asking HTS to withdraw from areas it controlled close to their own territory. The reason for this was that Russian had offered – as part of a new ceasefire deal – to end all airstikes against Faylaq al-Rahman if it could separate its ranks from the ranks of HTS (which is an internationally-designated terrorist organization).
HTS in East Ghouta is mostly active in the pocket’s central areas. Recently the jihadist group initiated a spree of rebel infighting by attacking the Jaysh al-Islam Islamist faction and as a result of this, some of its fighters, upset with the decisions of their commanders, chose to join Faylaq al-Rahman out of protest.

There can be no doubt that the entire motivation behind this proposal put forth by HTS is to help its fighters remain in East Ghouta without upsetting other militant factions who, tired of being subjected to daily bombardment from the air, wish to get on-board with the new Russian ceasefire deal.

Various consumer DJI drones are being used in a war right now by both the Philippine Army and the radical Islamic terrorist group called the Maute. The Battle of Marawi is an ongoing war which started last May 23 when President Duterte of the Philippines declared martial law on the island of Mindanao due to a rise in terrorist activities. Consumer drones are easy to buy, and they can give an advantageous aerial perspective, so it wasn’t long before both the Maute and the Philippine Army starting utilizing them. While the government used DJI drones to track terrorist hideouts, the Maute were also spotted using unauthorized DJI drones to escape and monitor the Philippine Army. We Talk Uav got an exclusive interview with an authorized DJI retail store in the Philippines, and they shared insights into the drone surveillance war in Marawi.

According to the interview with the shop staff, the Philippine Army often purchased drones directly from their DJI store. They said that the neighboring DJI repair shop restored numerous drones that were shot by the Maute group. The Phantom 4 seems to be the army’s drone of choice, but the picture above is a Phantom 3 Professional that was taken in for repair. A bullet hole pierced through the camera, and the staff explained that the Maute shot the DJI Phantom 3 Professional at a short range with a .22 caliber bullet, hence the small hole. After the drone lost its live view function, the auto return to home brought back the damaged DJI drone to safety. The Philippine Army was reported to have 2 drones per battalion, but many of those DJI drones came back for repairs.
