This. Sports Illustrated is written at a 3rd grade level. (At least it was a few years ago, not sure about now.) The reason for that is because they're speaking to a wide audience, a smart person can understand a sentence written for a dumb person but it doesn't work the other way around.

Setting that aside, what do you people want? Him to speak right over their heads like most politicians try to do? Avoid answering the question at all costs?
