well my father's a mix of german, dutch, english, and irish. dutch/german from his NY yankee father and english/irish from his southern mother.

Germans only come out as the plurality because A lot of people in the northeast and west identify as english ancestry, whereas everyone in the south and appalachia self-identifies as "american" despite also being english ethnically. Add these together, and we're majority anglo.

It really depends on your location though. Midwest and Great Lakes areas are predominantly German. Lots of English in New England. Lots of Irish, Italians, and Poles ranging along the metropolitan areas on the east coast ranging from DC to Boston. Lots of Scots-Irish in the south. Moreso Dutch because both sides of my family have followed Dutch traditions since they came over in the late 1800's. You should know more than anyone else that there is a huge cultural barrier between the north and south, and 'Murrica, Straya, and NZ would identify more closely with you, a more shared, positive history together, while a lot of Irish harbor animus towards bongs.

There is a special connection between the Anglo countries that's impossible to describe. We just get along well with each other, and it's more than just a shared language. The average white American is not ethnically English, there are more Germans, Scotch-Irish, and Irish, quite a few Scandis too especially in the Upper Midwest (you can hear it in the accent; watch Fargo), but America was put in place, its structure and institutions have a British heritage. American Brits were the architects and founders of the country.

Also, we've been on good terms since the War of 1812 when you limeys burned down the White House. Strong trading partners, shared language and heritage, and we've been on the same side of every war and align in every international conflict, the Cold War and so on. Thatcher and Reagan made a great duo.

Only a clueless continental Eurofag would think for one second white American identify more with krauts than Brits, just because there's a greater share of them within white America. They're completely assimilated. There's a few "German-American" and "Polish-American" and so on clubs around, but that's it really. Americans have forged a strong national identity, and we have a fondness and connection with our fellow Anglos.
