Also the legions stationed on the boarders would get bored, declare their general(or the first senator they found) Cesar and march on Rome. This happened like 50 times. Generals stopped bothering to march on Rome and just kept whatever they could hold.

The Roman Empire's success was entirely based on expansion. Once it got too large to defend, expansion became impossible.

This explanation, BTW, applies to almost all empires. The whole point of an empire is to conquer shit to enrich some faction of the empire. Once there's little left of value to conquer, you have to turn to defense and stability. That is 100 times more difficult than conquest. The only civilizations that have been able to accomplish long-term stability are the ones based on banking: Switzerland, the Vatican, the City of London, Monaco, etc. Conquest is not a good long-term strategy, but banking is.

To add on, the ease of life bred degeneracy. Look at a large number of emperors prior to its collapse. You had the guy who was gay and wanted to become a eunuch and a harem girl (No fucking shit either) you had the guy who walked backwards all the time, you had the gladiator guy, and so on.
Once dominance was established and the borders stabilized (Initially) the conditions began to stagnate. Conquests to the west resulted in draws away from regions most likely to be pushed. Lack of political reform and economic reform and successive assassinations and coups meant the Empire was rotting from within as much as from external forces.
