The government could send a lot of terrorist conspirators to prison for life if they wanted, and they choose not to, opting instead for expensive surveillance which obviously is insufficient given multiple terrorist attacks in the last 6 months.

Daily reminder that EU Law cannot be held supreme over British Law.

The EU is illegitimate and probably another attempt at a Franco-Prussian domination of Europe to protect their failing industries.

Parliament should be held accountable for treason in continuing to support the EU.

Morally, absolutely not, but in law, when two laws are conflicting it is decided by the assembly in question, whether a court or public assembly, which law takes precedent and they've ruled in many landmark case laws that EU law is supreme over ours.

And yes, that is treason IMO.

I remember going to Majorca on holiday as a kid and it being this really quaint, family friendly place. There was this old dude who had a bicycle with an icecream thing on the front who rode about selling them and the restaurants were all Spanish rather than "Beckhams".

My mistake, it wasn't /britpol/, was some /b/tier bong AMA.

Out with the Krauts. We can wait for Betty, she means well anyways, and honestly the state propaganda around her cult is intense. But after her it ends. It wont work for Charles the Daft or soft-William. The crown needs to be taken LIKE A BOSWORTH BOSS. To install not a potentiate or another museum monarch, but a Rightful Check on Parliamentary tyranny, aided and abetted by the manufactured consent of the State Media. A mix of royal Plantagenet, Tudor, and Stuart BLOOD will make the short list. But, like Catholics, one drop of Hanoverian blood will invalidate. Monarchy is real, it's not a cartoon, and it has a purpose: to defend the blood of the people. A wary check on power, as needed.

Wish I had of been there. More times than not, the only thing you need to do to dispel somebodies arguments about Monarchism is point out every mistake they made - which is usually everything in their analogy. It's especially easy in Britain simply pointing out our constitutional framework. You need to remember what these people advocate is the destruction of 1000 years of law.

Elizabeth gets a pass. As do any amounts of tiny Hanover blood. The point is it can't be a dominant feature; the other Houses must predominate. But honestly, "which blood" is itslef an interesting discussion and I'm willing to listen. THe broader point, of having a monarch with the prerogative to protect its subjects, is the prime issue, and get their however it can be done. But the museum monarchy has to go.

I'm not as tied to the precedence as you are, as we've discussed. What good is common law if it constricts so tightly it becomes a suicide pact? Though, alternatively, I welcome a dissident legal case based on restoring a monarchy with explicit, temporary power as needed. I'm just trying to drum up some imagination to larp up scenarios where it can take place. I'm being totally honest, I feel the state propaganda is even more powerful in the UK than it is in the US, and that's saying something. All classes need to be looked after, the chav/white trash problem in the Anglosphere can be fixed with strong leadership, for example, and Britain is blessed with a system already in place to be dusted off.
>>
>>135798305
>>135798402
The people are responsible for setting the precedent for an inactive monarchy through 1649 and 1688 to begin with. Imagine a scenario where years are spelled into formulating a system where a monarch can be removed from their post by force if necessary, but then in turn, you make the entire act of removing a monarch pointless through making parliament absolute. This was achieved indefinitely by Victoria's reign, and what we have now is not even a Monarch. The PM holds more powers than any king or queen in history ever did, and the Queen's ministers hold more power than she does herself.

I totally agree on all points. My overall point in myself, barging in here and being an obnoxious Americunt, is to point out that restoring the crown to actual power to check the Parliament should be attempted. As an American I don't have this option. My government has been purchased.
>>
>>135798690
Nothing was officially changed. No laws were altered or appealed, no supreme court ruling and no parliament has restricted any powers from the Monarch officially since 1707 so all of the Queen's Prerogative powers to Assent to law, dissolve/prorogue parliament, Queen's consent, etc, remain in place. Obviously we know the reality of that situation but if we're LARPing here, setting the precedent for a monarch to even sign and approve Royal Assent in person would be a start. The Queen is under no legal obligation to listen to ministerial advice in theory. No court or assembly in the UK has the power to remove the Crown entirely but if these powers were exercised in any significant way, it could very well end up in the (illegal) dissolution of the Crown on some made up grounds of tyranny.
>>
>>135798794
I'm morally opposed to monarchism as a control system when populations grow large. It works on a small scale, in the same way a father is the head of a family, but on a large scale it is doomed to failure.

I think we should have had a second Cromwell, somebody who did it properly and had that happened I think we'd be in a better state than now. I do believe democracy and representation is the best system of governance over larger populations but I think ours is incredibly failed and needs a massive overhaul.

Ideally, I guess, we would have a monarchy controlled by the HoC and the HoL but allow the HoL, in parallel with the monarchy, to have complete veto power. Something that has been taken from them

The system we have no, with the all but ceremonial monarchy is a mess. I'm not sure what the best future for that is, I don't even really have a suggestion.

They do, but it's honestly not their fault. The mass propaganda machines that have been built since WWI would be difficult for any people to overcome, in any sort of democracy. It's been a case study in how a democracy can simply be led to do the bidding of those who control the mediums of public thought.

You don't understand that what you are advocating is to appeal a millennia old system which formed every aspect of our law and constitutional framework. Not only did the Crown build the nation of England, Scotland and Wales - it shaped the modern world and all those that spawned from the British Empire. Our law which is set upon Magna Carta, Habeaus Corpus, Provisions of Oxford, West Minister, Bill of Rights 1689, Act of Union, etc, were all born from the Crown. The modern perception of liberty was born from our parliamentary-monarchical system and what you neglect to answer is the fact now the Prime Minister holds more power than any king or queen ever had in history. Britain has, arguably never, followed a form of absolutism but certainly not since the 13th century which is when parliament first convened.

You should do research our constitution. The Crown is a seperate institute to the reigning monarch and is, in theory, supreme. No public assembly and no court in Britain can remove its place. The reigning monarch is not absolute in its placement, but it is from him/her all powers derive from. They serve as the oversight of our system, managing Prerogative Powers which include Royal Assent (approval for law), the appointment of Prime Ministers and ministers when not assigned by the electorate, Queen's consent, the power to dissolve an incompetent parliament, fire Prime Ministers and assume absolute power if necessary (this is all still legal in theory today). Parliaments role was to enact the will of the people, free of the restraints of the monarch granted they were following their duties and abiding by the will of the electorate. According to William Blackstone & the men who wrote the Bill of Rights 1689, the right to bear arms was essential in all of this so that people held the ultimate form of supremacy. But now, our system has a Crown who is ran entirely by ministers and an inactive Queen, which gives parliament absolutist rights.

I think you have it backwards. Democracy works best in local, Town Hall-style meetings, where people are *really* connected to the outcomes. But in a large advanced tech society the masses can be swayed by the powers who controls the teeVee and other media. In this case, a Blood Monarch, to look after his/her people is really what's needed. The trick is finding a quality succession plan. Witagemot FTW.

Cromwell foresaw the issues with a powerful parliament? How the hell can you say that? He dissolved the Crown on bogus grounds and then assigned himself a role which held none of the restraints which had existed in the 700 years prior to Cromwell's life. He was a Dictator who's system collapse shortly after his death once people realised its failures, and the Crown was returned. 1649 and 1688 were the biggest disasters in English history. Both directly led to the supremacy of parliament.

>Formed every aspect of our law and constitutional framework
In some ways, yes, in others, no. A lot of our law was formed out of disdain for and fear of the monarchy. Laws they were forced to accept, not laws they proposed.

I have researched the constitution, I'm not talking from a place of no knowledge.

The fact the current system is flawed in no way means a reversion to the previous system is necessary. I will point out my comments on population again.

Just 200 years ago, the population of Britain was about 10million. In 1689 (BoR) the population was 5 million. When the Magna Carta was signed, the population was just 3.5million. Monarchies work for smaller populations, they don't for large populations.

Restoring total power to the Crown would be great if the Crown was on the side of the country. That might not be the case, it's very likely, in fact, that it wouldn't be the case and has happened plenty of times through history. What happens if the Crown has absolute power and decides the country needs to be filled with Somalians? You stage a coup? You behead the Queen and take over? Not going to happen, not now. Parliament is supposed to be a representative, peaceful (as far as can be) system of governance and it has been pretty successful in that aspect.

I'm not sure, I think there needs to be representation for the public and the best method we have of ensuring that is Parliament. Ideally PR instead of FPTP. I do see your point though.

It's a case, for me, of either putting your trust in meritocrats who are chosen by the people to represent the people, or by a single, fortunate soul born into the right body at the right time. I prefer the former. Again, I will say that the parliamentary system we have is flawed, massively, but that doesn't mean that monarchy with total control is the only other option

>A lot of our law was formed out of disdain for and fear of the monarchy. Laws they were forced to accept, not laws they proposed
True enough. The spirit lost between us and them is, it has been established for one thousand years that no court can remove the Crown so the terms for removal of a monarch or constraints were set. The act of removing a monarch has been entirely pointless since 1688 though, while we are at it, because of those laws you mention that were formed 'out of fear of the Crown' or rather, from the greed and envy of parliamentary men.

>The fact the current system is flawed in no way means a reversion to the previous system is necessary.
We've already established this isn't a "previous system", this is the constitutional framework that is still legally in place in Britain. The mutilation you were referring to to our "current system" is a one-sided flop in which parliamentary is only answerable to an electorate of voting blocs. Learn a bit about the Crown because it is worth knowing.

https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200304/cmselect/cmpubadm/422/42204.htm

>"The Queen's constitutional prerogatives are the personal discretionary powers which remain in the Sovereign's hands. They include the rights to advise, encourage and warn Ministers in private; to appoint the Prime Minister and other Ministers; to assent to legislation; to prorogue or to dissolve Parliament; and (in grave constitutional crisis) to act contrary to or without Ministerial advice."

Nothing was appealed, no court can or will rule these powers illegal and its intertwined into 1000 years of law that these powers DO exist lest our entire system fails.

>Restoring total power to the Crown would be great if the Crown was on the side of the country
Then why do you not advocate for the removal of a House instead of the removal of a Crown? I'm going to leave you with one question. You want to destroy 1000 years of law. What do you replace it with?
>>

I would be more inclined to agree with your point if 1.) you guys had free speech, gun rights, 2.) and media power was addressed. Baring those things, democracy just means the powerful farm the plebes from votes through their media apparatuses.

The PR vs. FPTP is interesting, though. I done a bit or research, FairVote, etc, and it also has problems, but different ones. But, again, not addressing money in politics, importing voters to replace natives, and the compliant, manufacting consent of the media is the ROOT problem; playing with voting methods is just trying to ice a rotten cake.

From early in its life the Admiralty itself frequently referred to the flag as the Union Jack, whatever its use, and in 1902 an Admiralty Circular announced that Their Lordships had decided that either name could be used officially. Such use was given Parliamentary approval in 1908 when it was stated that “the Union Jack should be regarded as the National flag”.

The Magna Carta, one of our most important legal frameworks, was signed by John because he had no other option. He either agreed to the terms or he was ousted. Previous monarchs had run riot and monarchs since then did the same, though somewhat less. Leadership cannot be absolute, and that's the point in democracy and a representative parliament. If somebody goes too far, they can be removed peacefull from their role. Again, our system is flawed, it still allows for individuals to hold far too much power, but that doesn't mean we should return to a similar system.

>Learn a bit about the Crown
The 'previous system' I'm talking about is quite clearly the system before parliamentary supremacy

If the Queen was to dissolve parliament it would be seen as nothing more than partisan politicking and the fallout would be enormous and lead to the removal of the monarchy. I understand that's not 'lega' but it would happen. Plenty of things have happened and the law has changed to accommodate it, there's no reason that wouldn't happen again.

>You want to destroy 1000 years of law
A total nonsense. I never advocated for the removal of the monarchy, I never said I want to 'destroy' anything at all.

I replace it with a better form of parliamentary democracy than we have now. I replace it with true proportional representation and I give the Lords back their power of veto. I re allow hereditary peers and I expand the HoL to include a proportion voted in by the public

>>135802867
Your first point is right. We had, in the Bill of Rights I believe, a section on allowing Protestants to bear arms, but that was at the behest of parliament so it meant fuck all. We do need free speech and we do need to be able to balance the power between state and the public. Society cannot function fairly or properly until both sides are on a level footing.

Under PR we would have never seen the mass importing of voters we have now as no government would have got the power to do so.

Here's a bit of history for you.

James VI a Scot king inherited the English throne from Elizabeth I as she had no heir of her own, thus becoming James I of England and inturn unifying both the Scot and English thrones, because of this a new flag was required by James to signify this new union.

Magna Carta was a failure, in its self, which lasted a few weeks, in its self was bad natured and ill thought out, its significance comes from the fact it has a tremendous impact on forming our modern concept of liberty thus all that stemmed from it. It had profound effects in both 1649 and 1688, and was quoted as law both in the Bill of Rights, Habeus Corpus and by William Blackstone. It's powers are centered around the Crown, and my original point was, abolishment of the monarchy is not the solution to a tyrannical monarchy [which we do not have] so it was relevant to that.

>

Then why what was said all before, and the praise for Cromwell? And why should the focus on be extending already existing powers to parliament and balancing what already exists between parliament-state? Our system is one-sided and ruinous because the monarch does not fulfill its role where it should be. You can't take the most fundamental aspect of our Constitution away then expect it to work.
