Back on /co/ we had this shitty thing called "A Day With Spongebob Squarepants". It was a bootleg tape of sort that was listed on Amazon for a few days, then taken down. For some reason, a bunch of anons became obsessed with finding the thing, just for the sake of finding it. They made threads about it nonstop, going as far as to dig up the, rather shady, history of the guy in charge of the company that supposedly produced it. It was obvious to everyone that the video didn't exist, but those faggots were so wrapped up in the hunt that they insisted that they had stumbled upon some crazy conspiracy that would lead to the tape. After about half of a year, they finally tracked the guy behind it down and asked him about the tape. As it turned out, the listing was taken down because his company realized it would be too much work and never produced it (then he suggested they give him money through a kickstarter so he can make it for read). Just like that, all of those idiots were snapped back to reality and realized they spent half a year hunting down something that probably didn't exist in the first place.

The point I'm trying to get at is that people can get caught up in stupid shit. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and re-evaluate what you're doing. I think Anon5 is a similar situation. Anyone who takes his words seriously needs to take a break for a few days and get away from the "hype" of it, then come back and see if his words are actually believable or if he's just an /x/-tier nutjob.

the way image format work is very simple. it's nothing more than a header followed by a binary sequence. if there were a second image embedded in the first the image would appear scrambled, as image handler libraries read the header and then interpret the following binary. while you can hide short messages in ascii text in an image, hiding an entire cp image inside a regular jpeg doesn't work. even if it did, there is still no way for the attacker to control your filesystem. it's very probable that the images viewed on 4chan are never written to disk but rather just indexed in the filesystem in ram. if you clear your browsers history and delete temporary files before shutting down then you're safe. computers and operating systems aren't half as complicated as people seem to believe.
